Hi SDN!

Any suggestions for a good order to do NBME's? I just finished Uworld qbank once. I still have yet to do the UW1 and 2 assessments. I have 2 weeks until my exam. Ill probably only be able to do 2-3 NBME's because I want to try to finish FA again. Any advice?

I apologize in advance but I searched everywhere on SDN for over an hour now with no definitive answer for which NBME's to use.

Thanks!

Focus on NBMEs 7, 11, 12, or 13 because they're most reflective of the current exam. It's really up to you which you pick. There isn't a wrong answer. They're all about the same.

I suggest not doing 12 last. I didn't do as well on it as I was hoping, and I've heard from a lot of people that they thought it was much harder than other exams too. Not a good feeling 4 days before the test.

Any benefit of doing NBME 1-4 if you have done the other ones already?
I think so. If you do all 2000 questions it's basically another full question bank. Except that they are all retired or current STEP 1 questions so every question you miss and subsequently learn from is extremely high yield. Yeah, there are no explanations. But that's the trade off for going straight to the source.

I thought 11 was actually one of the tougher NBME's. Went down by 4 points after taking 7 a week prior.

Hi Ijn!

So i just did NBME 7. Its crazy how around 20-something q's wrong is barely 240! Even though I defn couldve done better I was shocked by how simple/straight forward some questions were. Ones i got wrong were mostly b/c I overcomplicated them.

It was weird especially after Uworld and DIT. They seemed to cover all this info. For >85% of it I could pinpoint the answer in FA. The answer choices to pick from werent as difficult to narrow down from as Uworld either.

Is this how the real exam is?

Thats how my exam was. Perhaps I got lucky. There are were also a decent amount of straightforward Q's like the NBME's were too. But there were definitely some tricky ones too though, but I didn't feel like it was a disproportionate amt. Check your NBME answers as well, def had a Q from them on my exam.

oh, and if I were you, I would not take NBME 12 last. I took it ~ 4 days prior to my exam and felt mentally raped lol. There were a lot of funky questions on there. My score on this exam was at least 15 points below what I got on the real thing and was my lowest practice test score period. However, I do think you should take it just to be prepared in case you see questions like those, but I wouldn't take 12, or 13(I didn't take this one but I heard it was weird too) for that matter less than 2 weeks before my exam.

I'm still yet to have done an NBME, but I'm doing #3 in around two weeks from now because they're retiring it on July 30th. So if you do one first, do that one.

I would think going in ascending numerical order makes most sense given that the latter ones are more recent, you (or I) should finish off on what's most likely to be reflective of our exam.

I took NBME 12 first (Friday, July 6), since I've read that its the most difficult. I'm still trying to decide which one I'm taking next Friday/Saturday, to see how much I have improved over these 2 weeks (at least I hope I have!!!).
