I just overnight express mailed my check to NBME so I can register for Step 1. They already have the documentation that I am an actively enrolled medical student on file from last year. I attend medical school in California but plan on taking the exam in another state at the end of June. Two questions:

1. After NBME receives my check and processes it, do they physically mail me any documentation/registration passes that I need to take the test? When do I get that? I was planning on leaving for the next two months to study, but if they mail any necessary documents to my home address I won't get them! Or, does prometric get the information and then prometric mails me the pass card to actually take the test? If so, can I give them my new temporary address?

2. Any issues with taking Step 1 in a different state than where you attend medical school?

Thanks.

no idea about different states, but they dont mail you anything. further correspondence is by email.

Pretty much positive that this isn't a problem. Many people I know go home to study/take the test. I'm taking it in a different state, so if I get F-ed I'll let you know.
