I just scored a mere 210 on my practice nbme and I have 1 week until test day. Would it be advisable to delay taking the exam? What is a good nbme score to shoot for? I am applying for pathology in the fall

Is that the only practice NBME you've taken?
What is your target score?
What was the distribution like on the score report? Were you on the low end in all areas, or just a few?

Have you finished UWorld? If not I would postpone at least 3 weeks, study weak areas, finish UWorld, and take more NBMEs. If you have finished UWorld maybe you could bring it up in 2, but I'd give myself more time anyway. How long have you been solely studying for step 1?

This is for step 2, about 3 weeks. I have finished UWorld once but I am going though it again. That sounds good, I was worried about taking it too late but since the scores will not be released until mid-September anyway I should have some time. Thank you!

Given that score reports are going to be delayed only staring the week of July 31st, that's a call you have to take depending on how much of a difference it would make to your application to have the score in by September 15th vs 24th. But in general, you want to be sure to pass, and the new passing score is 203. A rule of thumb is to have at least a 10 point cushion with your NBME score to be somewhat confident that you will most likely pass/score close to your expectations.

Definitely go through UWorld again if you have the time, mainly your incorrect and marked questions. Don't take another assessment too soon, give it at least a week or two, in case you decide to postpone your test.

Not meaning to be pedantic when I say this, but the new passing score is 209.
