Hey all taking my Surgery Shelf in 2 weeks. I'm reviewing my old UWORLD questions for Surgery and going through DeVirgilio. I'm also using Amboss and trying to finish all as much as I can. I also finished the Pestana qs and doing some Qs at the end of DeV. Any advice on what I should focus on or what I should expect? Anything someone did that they wish they did differently? Thanks and stay safe in this time!

took it two weeks ago with >95%ile

UW Surgery + incorrects again
UW Medicine if you haven’t already done it (cards, GI, renal, endo)
Pestanas the 2 days before the shelf
Emma holiday video
NBME practice questions
Cram thyroid, breast, ortho stuff day before
Know trauma algorithms like the back of your hand
Know shock types and general treatment

I think a lot of people spread themselves very thin for this exam but reality is that it focuses on very high yield material. There was not a lot of minutae on my exam. It is hard, but far easier than medicine to logic through.

Also I find it hard to believe your school is administering NBMEs with everything going on

Thanks! Thats great advice. What about Amboss practice questions for the topics you listed?

I think it’s more important to learn from the questions diligently. If you truly believe you have all the UW content 100% down, then moving onto nbmes, AMBOSS or devirg is what I’d recommend.

don’t really have any recommendation of one over the other. They’re all superfluous to UW content imo but can help drill down some concepts
