nbme7 question about old guy with diabetes

I got that wrong too (I put Adjustment Disorder with Depressed Mood, but I was reading too much into the question by assuming that he had had some recent life change.)

I think the answer is MDD, because I think there were at least 4 of SIG-E-CAPS in there, and if you have MDD, it supercedes everything else (unless there is some medical problem.)

yeah i guess there's like 4.5 haha i looked at it again
but i guess just tough because it was so vague, and he didnt report being depressed...

concentration
sleep disturbance
appetite/weight change
low energy

I just finished that block right now, and man that was definitely MDD. The "poor eye contact" is a huge buzzword/phrase for depression right there, even if it's not a SIGECAP. As soon as you read "maintains poor eye contact" in a stem, assume depression unless you can argue otherwise. So the only other choice that should make the decision difficult would've been what Sol put.

Definitely not trying to make anyone feel dumb (because man that happens enough to me on this site), just wanted to throw that out there in case it helps someone. That phrase alone should be setting off alarms in your head when you read it. I don't think I've ever read a stem with that in it in which the answer (or the eventually explicitly stated diagnosis) wasn't straight up depression of some sort.

Also, I'm an idiot for not buying paying the extra dough for the incorrect answers. There are a ton on here I can easily narrow down to two, but then struggle. So knowing I got those questions wrong would give me a pretty good idea of what the correct answer was.
