I was wondering for those who were interviewed at NECO, what questions were you asked, where did you stay, and what were the difficult questions that you were Asked? I have an interview on dec 16.

I'd also really like to know... I'll be interviewing there on December 16th as well 🙂

check the interview feedback section for NECO, interview has two part where you will be interviewed by a student and a committee member. It is rather easy just like most optometry school interviews.

Go over all the interview feedback questions. you will have two interviews. One with a professor who know everything about you except your gpa and oat score. Then you have another interview with a third year student who does not know anything about you. So the interviews are more about you as a person rather than focus on your stats. It is a BEAUTIFUL college, you will love it.

Hey Everyone!

I am in my 3rd year of biomed and I have a GPA of 3.66 overall and a 3.77 in science. I applied to NECO and have my interview comming up Dec 2nd.

I got a 350 overall on my OAT and 370 TS. My lowest mark being 320 in RC.
I worked in a research lab last summer but have basically no optometry experience except job shadowing for a few hours. I am part of intramurals and a student club but don't have any volunteer hours.

What are my chances of getting into NECO for next sept?
Does any one know how early we hear back from NECO after our interview? I was hoping to hear back in time to apply to Chicago if I get bad news.
Thanks!

I interviewed last friday, nov 11, and just got my acceptance letter today, nov 17th.

I say you have a very good chance at getting into any optometry school. As long as you have a personality.

My most difficult question was personal, so you would not get it. Another one I had problems with was how will you work with someone who doesn't speak your language? Most questions are seen on SDN. Prepare for 2 interviews

Hey Everyone!

I interview on dec 2nd! I was wondering how many people are interviewed each day

and if the first thing everyone does is get the interview?
I am just wondering because I get more and more nervous as the day goes on and would love if the interview was the first thing!

Wow, your scores are excellent 🙂 Don't worry , you would be the best candidate 🙂

I think there was about 20 people and it was split into 2 groups. One group interviews first (2 interviews, student and faculty) and the other group listen to them go over financial aid and stuff. You don't get to choose but it was a long day so be prepare to stay till 2:30. Lovely school but I probably will reject my acceptance.

ahh! okay, thanks for your reply! I'm so nervous and excited, can't help it! I am from Ontario so I am flying over tomorrow!

Congrats April77, hopefully see you in september!!

Congrats getonin and april77! I also interviewed on lucky 11/11/11 and was accepted!! 🙂 Let me know if you decided on attending!

I am stuck between PCO and NECO. Sent in my deposit for neco, since my pco interview was so late. Are you guys debating between any others? They both have really good qualities. This is hard.

PCO hands down. You'll thank me later 🙂

I rejected NECO and choosing between PCO and NOVA now. I love Boston and NECO was a top choice, despite the cheating scandal. But I was so disappointed. I just felt NECO was overly expensive and they need to upgrade their equipment and do some remodeling. I don't know about you, but I felt they were selling the city and not their school. NECO has its perks but even with 50+ clinics, you probably will go to maybe 10 and you might not get the better clinics.

For me, PCO just gave me the feeling they care about your education and future. New module system, remodeled clinic, 40 students a class, 4 during clinic, some well-known professors in the field, early exposure to patients, longer externship and I thought it was pretty nice for them to print out all your patients' data when you graduate.

Whereas NOVA seems like a happier place to be. Everyone is so nice and the atmosphere is so... professional being multidisciplinary. Everything is cheaper, nicer weather, up to date equipment. My only complaint is you don't see patients till second or third year and you are retaking science courses during first year but it's for the NBEO . Beautiful campus and despite optometry program still fairly young, the school itself has prestige and people actually heard of it.

Yeah, I am having a hard time choosing as well. I think every program has good and bad things, but if you are determine, you will succeed. Best of luck! 🙂

Hi Guys!

I haven't been active on the forums ever since I decided to attend NECO. But today, someone messaged me and brought me back on the site. I'm wrapping up my first semester at NECO; one more final left on the 23rd! And I gotta say, this is the best decision I've ever made! I almost didn't come for an interview at NECO because I thought it was overpriced, and because I had gotten into SCCO and Puerto Rico, which had been my top choice. Sya made a good point about not seeing patients until 2nd and 3rd year. Personally, I think it's important to have patient encounters early on to not lose sight of our goals. That's why I'm lovin' it here! It's incredible how much clinical skills we learn as soon as the semester starts. We also build up a lot of confidence in our skills by applying them during screenings at local schools around the greater Boston area. Even though, as first semester OD students, we are only qualified to do simple entrance tests and retinoscopy on screenings, the children we screen are incredibly diverse, and you actually feel like you make a difference in the child's life!

I did not apply to PCO or NOVA, nor have I visited those two schools, so I cannot sway you away from those schools, but I can definitely sway you towards NECO, a little🙂 Don't worry about the price tag, we'll pay it off in no time. I think you do get what you pay for, and NECO's clinical program is totally worth it! The class size is perfect, not too big, not too small, just right! We are all very involved and social. Not to sound too cliche, but the school feels like a family, there is great camaraderie and support throughout the school. The administration is really responsive to our needs and requests. The city is amazing. Everyone is super active, lots of runners here. I think this will be one of the best 4 years of my life! What has surprised me thus far is how much I actually love optometry. I never knew how much I would like it until now. Everyday, I'm reminded of how amazing a field I've picked. Regardless of where you ultimately chose to pursue your education, it'll be the most amazing time of your life as long as you get active, you get passionate, and you get involved; and you'll be greatly rewarded!

Good Luck Everyone! Let me know if you have any questions or concerns that I can address🙂

Lo ya I think I am going with pco too. So what do I do with neco? I know the 500 I deposited is non refundable, how do I tell them I decided not to go anymore so maybe they can give my seat to someone else? Ah its going to be an awkward convo. 😛

I completely agree with coloradosky, neco is a great school. The staffs are super nice, the college is so amazing looking. My only turn off about the school itself is that the labs seem a bit small and congested, but this is a minor issue. So i would say that this is definitely a school worth looking into.

I have my interview on March 23rd.
It took me a while to submit my application, that's why the date for the interview is a bit late. I know neco has a rolling admission policy, but would this matter now that I got the interview. I mean would the late date for the interview affect my chances in getting accepted, or is it just a matter of doing good on the interview and I'll be fine.

No need to triple post the same message...
It depends on how many seats are still available in the class.
They might be a little more selective since it's later on in the cycle, and if it's an open file interview, everything will still be looked at. The interview is only one part of the application.
Good luck though, Boston is a great city
