I completed a residency in Pathology many years ago, but never liked it and have worked in various related and unrelated fields since graduating -- medical informatics, medical writing and even children's book illustrating. I also had a child.
Every few years I have flirted with the idea of going back to medicine and doing a residency in psychiatry. This time I feel I really mean it.
Since I have been out of medical practice for many years, what first step should I take to pursue a career in psychiatry? Should I connect with a residency program and see if I can do a rotation? Volunteer at a clinic? Try to find a psychiatrist I can shadow?
Where do I start?
Thanks for any advice!
