My original plan was to take the DAT this spring and apply to dental school the first day the application process is open. However there is a minor dilemma.

Freshman year I broke a minor violation and received a "Notice of Written Reprimand"

1. Having an alcohol related staff interaction
2. Having guests that displayed intoxicated behaviors

This written reprimand resulted in an alcohol and law seminar and having it maintained on my record.

Fortunately, my University allows me to petition to expunge the file the semester I graduate. Basically, it will be destroyed senior year Spring semester. Around March - way before the application process is open (mid May).

I don't know if I should apply this spring (Junior) and have this reprimand on my file.

Here are my choices:

1. Apply this year (junior) with a 3.5 and 3.5 science GPA (2 A's in Orgo 1 and 2). Check the box that says I broke violations against Student Conduct Code.

2. Apply senior year and this file will disappear. However, I'll need to maintain my GPA for another whole year. Also I would have to wait and full year before I attend Dental school. (Time between college graduation and dental school starts). BUT - I can also have more volunteer hours and more shadowing hours ... etc. The year off, I'll asset/shadow my dad, a general dentist.

A file note: This is a MINOR violation. It resulted in a "Written Reprimand".

Go ahead and apply this year....just own up to your mistake and tell the adcomms what you learned from it. It sounds like a pretty minor violatoin, nothing that would keep you out of dental school. I think its always a bad idea to try to hide things. Good luck to you and remember this is just my opinion and I have no facts to back it up.

I say it still depends on what your DAT scores are. If you dominate the DAT I say go for it, if not then I would wait, which in the mean time would wipe your record clean and give you more time to stude for the DAT. But its your choice, I guess applying, regardless of your scores, won't hurt.

Dude, who gets a $hit about getting a little drunk when you were under age. Ya, explain what you learn, blab, blab, blab. As long as you do not have a drinking problem.

You have solid GPA, and you will most likely kill the DAT with some review. Go for it.

Thaxil,

Although they are minor violations, they do stay on his record for 7 years and if the school run a background check on you, they will find those out. in his case they are removing the sanctions sooner. i was an RA and know all about this kind of stuff.

UFStudent,
Go to the dean of the students at your school and explain the situation. tell them you were a dumb freshman and blub bluh blub and you have a clean record since. Tell them that you are applying to dental schools and they dont like to see that on your record. do what it takes... offer to do some volunteer work... tutor... serve on a committee... make a poster about alcohol and out in your dorm... see if they can get rid of it for you. in most cases, its doable.

good luck to you. PM me if you want.

Do what Comet said; it sounds like very good advice.

If you can get it off your record, do it. There is no reason such a minor violation should even be discussed when you have proven your self far be on what is needed. The last thing you want to do is hid the event in case if they do a background.

I just get upset to think something like this could prevent admittance.

Who cares. A reprimand is nothing. Not like you have a felony on your record. You were a freshman and any school that holds a grudge against you for something silly like that doesn't deserve to have you there.
