Interviewing in 2 EXPENSIVE(flight/stay/car) places mid september. Now i just got an invite to another Expensive place.
CC's maxed out almost. 🙁

CHOICES:
interview there in end of September or beginning of November???
If November then i will have around 6 weeks after my 2 interviews to hear an answer, and i wont have to spend for this other interview if accepted.

P.S. the last school is just as desirable for me as the first 2.

I dont want to postpone too much but i think that its relatively early in the season and it wont hurt me much. Anyone Agree?

PLEASE Help me make this decision.

Yeah, toughie. It probably wouldnt hurt your chances too much to postpone, but I dont know if I could do it, especially at a desirable place I might really want to go, you know. If I were you I would apply for another credit card. 🙂 But that's just my very frivolous and sooo not money-smart nature! If it's just as desirable though...You just want to do this process once and you want to be sure you got into the best school for you, and gave yoruself the best shot you know...That's how I feel at least. 🙂 I know it's hectic, but I think its so exciting too 🙂

How competitive an applicant are you? You're getting a good number of interviews, so it's clear you're no slouch, but that would be an aspect of my decision.

I guess i am pretty competitive for DO. 30, 3.42, 3.3sci.

However, i am afraid that DO schools interview many more people (%), than MD, and am still VERY nervous. I applied last year, only MD, in december. No interviews so am freaked out.

To the other guy:

To be honest that last school is my last choice. I dont like the city that much or the schools reputation but its easy (easier) to get into.

I think a month wont kill me, but if i get an acceptence i may not be able to pay the deposit and that would soooooooo suck.
"I was almost a doc but i couldnt pay the deposit", pathetic.

what schools have you applied to and which have you received interviews?

Applied to MANY schools. 25MD/8DO.

The problem with postponing is a number of schools will give you a new date that is much farther ahead then just a month. The only question that can answer this is would you go to either of those 3 schools, which you indicated you would, but the last choice is not your favorite. What if the other schools don't let you know by the time of the next interview? Some let you know in 2 weeks, some it is longer.

In the long run the money we pay during the application process is a mere drop in the bucket when you think about how much med school is costing. Some schools will work with you on the deposit, some won't.

Well, depends on how fast those schools fill. Have you tried to find a student host? That might save money. As well as cheap airfare sites.

That is a hard call.

Great points, esp bolded. That is how I feel. Can you get a job to help pay for the costs? Will your parents/close people help?

Parents are broke. supported myself, wife and kid, through college. I kind of have a job but am looking for another. wife just got a job so i will have some money soon, but not now.

Regarding postponing, THEY gave me the dates. 2 in end of Sept, and on in beginning of Novemeber. So i know for a fact that i can get the beg of Nov. This school starts interviewing mid sept and not many interviews in oct. So i think i will still be in the first bunch.

Well since they said you could have that date and you feel nothing will be lost from the delay, then I would say go ahead and postpone your interview. Just make sure you are making a wise decision. Good luck. I hope you hear good news from the school you want to go to.

I second that. If this school is one where you don't know and would rather take the other two (if they will answer you prior) then I'd do it. Good luck! :luck:

IMO, i think your numbers are solid for DO schools, and i don't think a November interview would hurt you too much. besides, you want to be able to put that deposit down for one of the two schools you interview at if you're accepted!

you should take a look at some of the interview stats (ie. how many interviewees are accepted per school), i think many DO schools tend to accept a large portion of interviewed applicants.

good luck, relax, prepare for your interviews, i'm sure you'll do great.
