I have just been granted an interview at USC in a couple weeks...Since USC interviews are closed file, should I mention that I have a one year old son in order to address how I plan to go to school and have a family? The reason I ask is because it has been mentioned slightly in other parts of my application. Do I use this as an opportunity to show confidence in my abilities or should I just not mention it?

I say let them bring it up. If they bring it up, be positive and brief and ready to move on.

And I doubt they'll bring it up. If they bring it up, it'll be indirect, such as "tell us about your support system" or "how do you maintain life balance." Definitely don't stress over it. They're way more likely to challenge you on academics and ethical questions.

Don't forget to look in the interview database for typical USC questions.

Best of luck to you.

I agree that the most practical thing would be to let them bring it up, and then be honest and sincere.

I actually brought it up at most of my interviews, though, and every interviewer mostly reacted by trying to sell me on their schools family friendly administration and how great their city was to raise kids.

Don't stress over it. Most schools understand that life doesn't stop just cuz you're a med student.
