hello! this is my first time posting, so please forgive me if I'm posting in the wrong forum or something.. ^_^
I'm just feeling a little confused as to what I should do regarding future plans? I'm Asian/CA resident/junior at a CA school, and definitely will be taking a gap year (possibly two). My grades are sadly, not so fantastic. At the moment, I have a 3.23 cGPA and a 3.06 sGPA. I have received 2 C's -- one in Gen Chem II and one in Calc I.. I also have a W from withdrawing from OChem I last semester. Clearly chem is not my strongest subject. After this semester, I'm hoping to have a 3.37-3.4 cGPA and a 3.11-3.14 sGPA. I have also yet to take the MCAT, and was planning on taking it the summer after I graduate (May 2016).
I think the reason for my low GPA was that I have been working full time as a server since high school and unfortunately, not working is not an option for me. I've done SMDEP at UNMC, went on a medical mission, and have held leadership positions in my sorority and at my job (assistant manager, despite being the youngest). I've also been doing research for about a year now.
I know that I need to raise my GPA, but going to a SMP is just realistically something I can't afford. I mean, I can take out loans, but I need to continue working to help support my family. I was going to go to a CC after I graduate for a year and take certain courses that I won't be able to take (microbio, genetics, etc) and possibly retake gen chem II. I'll also be taking ochem at a state university this summer, mainly because it's cheaper.
I guess I've just been feeling very discouraged. Sorry for the super long post! I've kept this bottled up for a long time and just kind of ranted LOL. What would be the best thing for me as of now? I'm hoping that by the time I graduate, my cGPA would be 3.5 ish and my sGPa would be around 3.3-3.4... heh ^_^ thank you for reading if you did!
