Hi, I am about to begin my first semester of my second year in undergrad. I am pre med and majored in Biology my first year and took a semester off after my first year due to personal issues relating to my family. However, I am back and realized that Biology doesn't seem like it's for me even though so far I've managed to keep a 4.0 gpa. I am really interested in lab work, especially that of medical technologists, which is a major my school offers. I was also thinking of switching my major to Neuroscience as well. However, my problem is that I will need some sort of job after I get my BS in order to take care of my parents who will be living with me. My plan was to major in Medical Technology, get a job (I know the pay isn't great, from what I've been told), and just work for a bit and then apply to med school. I know I'm sacrificing a few years by doing this, but securing a job is important to me and also seems like a good fall back if med school doesn't work out, but I will apply to med school for sure. I'm just not going to give up on med school. I know it won't really give me an advantage over other med school applicants either, but it's the one way I've found where I can have a job doing lab work, which I like, and possibly getting accepted into med school. Does any have any idea or suggestions? Has anyone else taken this route? Help is much appreciated.

how much money are you aiming to make after you graduate?

i have my BS in Biotechnology - just graduated this past May of 2010 and currently work as a Research Assistant. the pay is great for a recent college grad, although i am in the Boston area so salaries could be inflated more so than the national average. im applying to med school during the summer of 2012.
