Hi, I am about to begin my first semester of my second year in undergrad. I am pre med and majored in Biology my first year and took a semester off after my first year due to personal issues relating to my family. However, I am back and realized that Biology doesn't seem like it's for me even though so far I've managed to keep a 4.0 gpa. I am really interested in lab work, especially that of medical technologists, which is a major my school offers. I was also thinking of switching my major to Neuroscience as well. However, my problem is that I will need some sort of job after I get my BS in order to take care of my parents who will be living with me. My plan was to major in Medical Technology, get a job (I know the pay isn't great, from what I've been told), and just work for a bit and then apply to med school. I know I'm sacrificing a few years by doing this, but securing a job is important to me and also seems like a good fall back if med school doesn't work out, but I will apply to med school for sure. I'm just not going to give up on med school. I know it won't really give me an advantage over other med school applicants either, but it's the one way I've found where I can have a job doing lab work, which I like, and possibly getting accepted into med school. Does any have any idea or suggestions? Has anyone else taken this route? Help is much appreciated.
