Hi guys,

I’m a prospective pre-dental student. I’m thinking to do an informal/DIY post bacc from GMU to save money and work while I study. I plan to enroll myself as degree seeking student (although I already have a bachelors) so that I can register for classes on time (almost recommended by everyone here), and just not finish the degree. However after reading tons & tons of discussions on informal post bacc, I’m still confused about few things (apologies if these are basic questions):

1) I only plan to take upper level science courses + courses that I did poorly on during my undergrad (such as organic chem). How do I register for upper level courses without taking their required prerequisites? Do I speak with the advisor with my intentions to why I am enrolled in this program and why I need to take these courses? Do I transfer credits from my previous university? I finished my undergrad in Canada, which was almost 7-8 years ago. Would they accept that?

2) when I contact the GMU pre-med advisor, do I tell them that I enrolled myself as degree seeking student on purpose? I hope they don’t consider that as “cheating”?

4) Do I have to declare a major right away? If yes, does dental school adcoms care what kind of second degree major I was interested in?

5) Has anyone here done their DIY post bacc from GMU? If yes, how was your experience?

Thanks a lot for reading this!

I am assuming my questions are pretty basic / common knowledge. Would someone still please be able to provide some feedback? 🙂
Thanks.
