hello. i have just got back by test results for NBDE part 1. I got a 76 which is barely passing score, but im very proud of my result because i went to school 20 years ago in another country and now 20 years later i managed to get a 76.
I know my score isnt great but i do have 20 years of experience. Should i study for 6 months and take the test again or take part 2 and star applying for schools?
any help would be greatly appreciated

thanks for the fast reply. so there isnt any chance for me to get accepted to any schools in the USA. i dont care which school i go to, as long as i can graduate from it as a dentist. i have 3.15 gpa

hi,
As far as i know most schools accept a gud score of above 85.when u put an effort to get 76 after so many years you still can do it.

thank you for your responces.
im gonna study for another 6 months and take the test again. And thank you for the help guys

Congratulations, I can't imagine how hard it must have been to study again after so many years. But from what I read here, you need a score above 85 to have a good chance of getting in somewhere. You have to retake it. Getting 85 is definitely doable, get the right sources, and write it again even in 3mo. Different schools will view your experience differently. Some give preference to younger students, other don't care. My school was notorious for taking in only young students, so you have to show them you can still hack it academically, and 76 (which by the way means you got close to 50% of questions wrong) is not going to do it.

You can definitely do better second time around. Good luck, you can do it. :xf:

Hi,

I definately agree with everyone here that u better retake it and I'm sure u can do it, just wanted to remind u to keep in mind that u have to schedule for retake before January 2010 because after that anyone who passed cant retake, plus I think that 3 months will be more than enough time for u to prepare, good luck!

the retake rule is effective 2010
in 2012 the scores will no longer be numerical, it will be pass/fail only.
