Hello, I am currently in my last year of undergraduate studies and have been accepted into three dental schools for the incoming class of 2011. I am having a really tough time deciding where to go and am torn between two of the three schools. I was accepted into UCLA, Minnesota, and Colorado so far in the application cycle and am a Minnesota resident. I loved both Minnesota and UCLA and am really confused with where to go. Minnesota is much cheaper because of my in-state residence but I really liked UCLAs program and school and feel like it would be a great option also. any advice would be awesome! Thanks!

How much is the price difference? Less debt means more options for the future. Ask yourself this: What is you end up going to UCLA and hate it there-you'll have wished you had save the money. That said don't go to a school you think you will hate even if it does save you the money.

the price difference is about $30,000..

Minnesota is about 53,000 with living expenses included and UCLA is 83,000 with living expenses included.

I just really liked ucla and have had mixed opinions about people thinking I should stay in my home state because of the price difference or go to UCLA to experience something new for 4 years.

Go to Minnesota. For $120,000 ($30k x 4 years), you can visit LA many, many, many times after graduation if you feel that it is necessary.

Many people here will agree with me - the cost of attending UCLA (or any out of state or pivot school) is not worth it if you have the opportunity to attend a state school significantly cheaper.

+1

I chose my state school over a few very nice looking offers. With the extra spending money I have in my pocket, I am capable of doing a whole lot of fun stuff (read Vegas) while still being far less in debt than had I gone to some fancily named private school.

Minnesota.

$120,000 with interest over the life of the loan is $200,000-$250,000!!! Imagine having that money to buy a few foreclosed condos to rent out or construct your dental office instead.
