Drop ECs to focus on CBSE?

I already hold leadership roles in student government and organized dentistry organization. I'm entering my last year next year so I'm debating dropping most extracurriculars to focus on CBSE, externships, clinic requirements, etc. I'd maybe keep a small research project. Any advice?

No program truly cares about any EC’s like student gov or research. Drop it and start studying for the cbse.

I'll drop leadership positions. But the research project is just a lit review with an omfs faculty that's pretty low effort so might just keep that?

If it takes up enough time that it eats into your CBSE studying (you will need every hour possible for this exam), then I would consider dropping that too, but if it's chill enough with low daily time requirements, then it may be alright.

CBSE is by far the most important aspect and you need it to be competitive. Everyone knows this.

It's less important, but plenty of programs do ask about ECs/leadership during interviews. Agreed that very time consuming ECs might not be worth it, but if you already have positions (with a reasonable time commitment) then I think you should try to keep some. Residency is all about managing multiple responsibilities at once. It's not easy, but staying involved while also doing well on the CBSE will help you really stand out.
