What's up SDN. Just looking for some advice on what to do in terms of EC's this upcoming semester/year.

Option 1: Internship/job at sports medicine department (Division 1). This involves working with athletic trainers and therapists with injured and non-injured athletes doing things such as taping, pre/post practice treatments, first aid, and any other needs of the student athletes. They are looking for somewhere between 15-25 hours a week. UNPAID for first year, then becomes paid for all other years until graduation.

Option 2: Stick to just volunteering at local teaching hospital and also volunteering at homeless shelter. Also leadership position with a program on campus.

Preciate any advice that is given. Apologies if similar to my last post.

Like everything else that you chose to spend time on, do whatever interests you the most. Don't turn to strangers for advice on what to commit yourself to.

Comments:

1) 15-25 hours might be excessive for someone who has to struggle to maintain a good GPA. If that describes you, keep in mind that a great EC won't help you much if you have a mediocre GPA.

Can you find out what percent of the time you'd be working with injured athletes vs doing support and education with active athletes?

I believe most of the work will be with athletes who are not injured, so basically just helping them stay healthy doing the things mentioned above. Occasionally there are injuries, but I am not sure as to what extent we can help with the rehab process.

Option 2 is better because it's real clinical exposure, and it also shows off your altruism.

As Goro says.
