So I have already submitted my app for this cycle and I seem to have been way off calculating my cumulative GPA, I thought it was a 3.45 but its a 3.4

I was wondering if anyone thought it would be a good idea taking two community college summer course to replace two of the lower division gen ed (non science) courses which i received a C in for an A which would bring it up with grade replacement from a 3.4 to a 3.48? Thanks!

I'd say you're good right now. Retaking non-science courses is a low ROI. I remember Goro saying adcoms don't care about a couple of Cs or Ds in French or history, etc.

Alrighty thank you! I m just not sure what to do at this point to help my app

What's your MCAT?

24 (7,8,9)
I know its low but I have a great upward trend with my sGPA 3.95 in 18 credits of post bacc courses all biomedically related upper lvl

Yeah gpas are good...and if I were you I would table the idea of retakes in general until AACOMAS figures things out about their new vs old grade replacement policy

Yeah, I would deff wait a bit while AACOMAS figures out this grade replacement issue.

Your numbers are not great, but I am surprised you didn't get nibbles anywhere. Where did you apply, and what was your application cycle like? Did you apply late, did you retake the mcat during the cycle, etc?

I would also think about retaking that MCAT. Getting a 24 won't be doing you a favor, when the average is nearing 27. If you are URM, or have amazing EC's, then it wouldn't matter as much.

Agree with the above poster too. 24 is really the bare minimum to apply to DO schools, and very few get in. Although it does happen at the schools with which your app really resonates with their mission statement. An example would be like West Virginia and you have TONS of rural healthcare work.

Thanks for your responses. I do have pretty stacked EC, great LOR and I am not URM but I am first to attend college in my family. I have been in contact with a few DO schools (campbell, pikeville, WV) and they told me that the MCAT was fine which I find hard to believe since anytime i post something here that is the primary concern of the responders

I have been hesitant to take the new mcat given I have taken the old one twice my second try having the high score of 24 but I will start preparing for in in case I get rejected from the 13 schools I applied to =)

I understand. I believe that every school will encourage every applicant to apply (maybe because schools want more money or can beef up their statistics on acceptance rates.) However, that being said, your weakest point in your application is your MCAT.

GPA is something that can be skewed and difficulty level varies across institutions, so I believe most schools don't consider that as strongly as the MCAT, since MCAT does give an equal playing field for everyone. I'm not saying GPA isn't important, but I believe schools believe MCAT is the better indicator than GPA, as it tests on your ability to critically analyze and think.

I have similar stats to you. I would NOT risk the new MCAT. Your MCAT is finally at the bare minimum it needs to be at, as well as your GPA. Apply early instead.

When did you apply last cycle?

Please chill...you're fine right where you are. It's not like you're applying to UCSF.

Thank you for your response! I agree that the MCAT is a big indicator for critical thinking and future test performance. I guess I ll stay focused on this cycle until I get accepted (God willing) or rejected 🙁 lol

I agree with you too, it is a huge risk, ill only take after this cycle. and I only applied to LECOM and VCOM, I got waitlisted at VCOM and I applied in December stupid move lol but I was like whatever I ll take the shot! haha I am a lot more mature and have learned a lot as a result tho so I don't regret it at all.
