Hi,
I am in a dilemma right now and I want some advice. please.

So, I went to 4 interview already and I was placed on the waiting list for all 4 of them. I still have 2 interviews offer left. Should I even go??? ( I waste so much money already) What did I do wrong that they put all the school put me on the waiting list? perhaps my stats is not outstanding? Or is it because I have a family and they are holding back on accepting me??

Not going to an interview is ridiculous. After applying and paying all that money in fees, not going to an interview is like leaving the game at halftime. If you got an invitation for an interview, you obviously sparked some kind of interest with the admissions committee. You have nothing to lose.

In this situation most people would tell you to go to those interviews unless you are ok with waiting another year just incase you dont get taken off that waiting list. Waiting another year would be costly because you would have to do everything all over again and spend more money than you would have if you had decided to go to these two interviews. Your taking a big risk by not going to those interviews.

I would suggest calling all 4 schools and talking to someone about your application and what you can do to improve yourself as a candidate. If the problem was your interview maybe you could get some feedback and work out some things so you can rock the other two interviews. Best of luck to you. I hope everything works out.

Well, for one thing, it is NOT a waste to go to interviews and to be WL'd, so change that attitude right now.

For a second thing, no one really knows what the calculus behind who gets accepted, deferred or WL'd is. Some people get accepted to better schools and flat out rejected to inferior schools. People with inferior stats get into better schools than people with better stats. Stop worrying about it if you ask me until after the cycle is said and done, and then you can ask what you can do to improve if you've been rejected everywhere officially.

My $.02.

The other thing to consider is how much money have you spent the last four years paying for school? Do you really want to lose the opportunity that you have been fighting for because you are unwilling to spend just a little bit more money?

That's how I look at it at least.

The problem that I have is a little tight on budget. I spend 3k for the last 4 interviews already. Of course, if I have money to spend then I would go to all the interviews. My question is, what is the chance that I will get accepted to one school from all 4 school that I am on the waitlist.....

Budget what you have left, buddy. Hostels are your friend if you're not freaked out by having a roomie. They are actually pretty cool to stay in and you might have someone to hang out with to talk about the area or what not. Use orbitz or one of those other discount airline ticket search engines. Those your friend, too. I understand how money can be tight, but think about the opportunity cost here (you HAVE taken economics, haven't you?)...$500 bucks versus an entire career? Hmmm...

And the waitlisted stuff? Like Passion4sci says, we don't know why they pick who they pick. Just do the best you can in your studies and get as much experience as possible. If you don't get in this year, don't sweat it. You can always improve yourself. Hey, look at me- I already got the axe from a private school and am on the ranked waitlist for the 3rd ranked school in the nation...who knows why?
