So I am wondering what I should be doing now...lol

-25 years old ORM
-first time applicant, graduated from well known university
-good letters of recommendations, (have an MD and DO letter, as well as other professors)
-good volunteering both clincal/non-clinical
-varied shadowing of several doctors both MD and DO
-Not great MCAT.... 27 on old MCAT ( PS:8 VR: 9 BS:10)
-****ty GPA.... 3.0 science, 3.3 cumulative or (3.1 science and 3.4 cumulative for texas schools) also have slight up shift after undergrad classes.

I applied this cycle broadly to MD and DO schools. So far I have received two invites, one from BCOM(DO) and the other from ATSU-SOMA(DO), and am currently wait listed at both. I haven't received any other invites yet. My Question is what the hell do I do now? If you guys where in my shoes what would you do? I want to go into emergency medicine.

The best thing you can do (and cheapest) would be to retake the MCAT. You could retry some of your science courses if you have the time and money. Keep up with your volunteering and shadow if you haven't.

Oh forgot to put shadowing experience down....but i have a lot. Do you think MD schools are out of the question if I only retake my mcat?

I have to think you are boned for MD if you don't

1) retake MCAT and drastically improve your score (and even then, that might not be enough)
2) take some time away from school, work, get some leadership experience
3) retake some of the pre-reqs that you did not get an A in
4) take some upper division courses and get A's in those too
5) keep up with everything else

That is what I have done and I believe it will help me. Between my urine poor 30-year old GPA and now is almost a full 2.0 difference (that is not a typo)... plus I have everything else in droves from points 2-4.

Don't take 30 years 😉 but do take some time off. If you simply retake classes and retake the MCAT, presuming you get As in retakes and 510+ MCAT, you should be in a good place for DO... MD will require more (IMO... and you get what you pay for 😉 )

Retake MCAT.

Retake classes for grade replacement if sticking to DO.

SMP and build resume for shot at MD.

You need to concentrate of fixing your deficits to make yourself a more attractive and competitive candidate if you get shut out this cycle.

That would to boost your GPAs (by retaking all F/D/C science coursework) OR acing an SMP. The MCAT is lethal for MD schools (unless you live in NM or another "lucky" state, but fine for all DO schools, except AZCOM.

You should also work on interview skills.

how does one work on interview skills? I was not nervous during the interviews nor do i have any nervous ticks or such.

Practice. Practice. Practice some more. You want to get the interview down to an art where you clearly articulate your thoughts and present them in an almost conversational manner (e.g. natural)
