Hi, so I really need honest opinions because I am so stuck and I really would appreciate any feedback or advice that you might be able to offer me. I’m following a pre-dental tract at a university that is not especially known for its science program, so I’m taking the necessary prerequisites without following a bio major. I’m in Orgo 1 right now and trying to learn everything on my own and have been teaching myself the material, but am not sure if it’s enough for the DAT exam. Im thinking of studying really hard for the exam throughout the summer and then taking it in early September (unless prometric centers continue to cancel due to the Coronavirus). Do you guys think I’m at a disadvantage if I apply for this cycle? I have a relatively high GPA, but considering the competitiveness and my incomplete foundation for taking the DAT exam, should I still apply or wait until the next cycle?

Apply this cycle but don't submit until you have your DAT score. If it's in the admissible ballpark, then submit. You're in "luck" for a late DAT date this cycle, as everything is pushed back due to COVID.

In regard to teaching yourself Org for the DAT, @orgoman22 is your guy for a solid prep for DAT.

You're not at a disadvantage at all. There's so much uncertainty with rolled out openings around the country. DS's will be offering an accommodated interview schedule that will most likely extend past the traditional interview season.

For DAT orgo, get yourself some good resources (Orgoman, DAT Bootcamp, Chad's Videos, etc) and go through them while you study. MOST of what you learn in orgo won't be on the exam and there's no point in spending hours teaching yourself details that won't be on the DAT. Do well enough in your classes but try and knock out the DAT (20+).

Thank you so much for replying and providing me with such great advice. I will work on learning everything so that once testing sites reopen I'll be able to take the exam as soon as possible! God bless you
