I heard getting into radiology residency is very difficult in United states even when u have 99/99 in both step 1 and step 2.

I am an IMG from INDIA having a postgraduate degree in radiology (DNB radiodiagnosis)from a private 500 bedded multispeciality hospital. My degree is recognised by the National Board of Examination-INDIA and it is a 3 yrs course. But my Degree is not recognised By Medical council Of INDIA.I have scored 99 both in step 1 and step2 and passed cs in first attempt.

1.Can I apply for direct fellowships in radiology Showing my DNB radiology degree recognised by NBE-INDIA and got while doing residency in a private hospital? If so,will I be allowed to work In USA after my fellowship.

2.Or atleast, will my DNB radiology degree improve my chances of getting into a radiology residency?

thanking u in advance

Vinoth,

Check out www.theabr.org and ask them directly. I think most fellowship directors will want some sort of recognized radiology residency before you start. Also you will usually need to pass all 3 steps of the USMLE. Be aware that many fellowships may sponsor you for a training visa, but not a work visa, unless they REALLY need you. I do not think that a degree in radiodiagnosis will necessarily help you get a US radiology residency.
