Ok so I know this is a decision I need to make for myself, but since I am around fellow future optometrists I need to ask this question.

So I have to take my OAT next Friday for the first time on the 22nd of July, but I am really not prepared at all. I registered for the Kaplan class back in June, but I had to finish up two of my last classes at my University in order for me to complete my degree so I did not use Kaplan's course that much and therefore got nothing out of it, although I am sure if re-schedule the OAT in October and retake the class from scratch then maybe I will do well on the OAT.

Since I am finished with school, I can now concentrate on the Kaplan class.

What do you guys think? For anybody that has taken the class, is it worth it? I really don't want to just go into the testing center for the first time and bomb it and then re-pay another $200 for a re-take.

Any suggestions would REALLY be helpful to me right now because I am really stressed out over this.

Thanks

I know plenty of people who got in that applied around October or even after. I think if you're sure you're going to be bomb it it's probably no use anyways. With that said, I would at least take a practice test and see how you do on it first before you reschedule. If you really do bad, then yeah reschedule. If you do mediocre, I'd probably go ahead and take it, apply, and let the schools know that you'll retake it in October. Just my opinion, hope that helps....good luck!

I think you should go for it! Just take the test. I didn't feel prepared either when I wrote it.

I ended up with 400TS and 370AA July 1st

Chances are that you already know all the science you ever will, because you had to take it with your degree. Refresh and that's all you should need. Just do a BUNCH of math practice. Remember, you have an on-screen calculator and the real math is 10X easier than the kaplan stuff. Don't let the kaplan stuff freak you out, I was scoring in the 330 range for the most part.

Good luck!

Take the practice tests and see where you are.
Opted test is the one that is most close to the real one.
Take it and see what you get.
And if you don't feel like you are ready, dont' take it.
You still have plenty of time.
