Hello All,

My friend is earning an undergraduate degree in Exercise Physiology and has plans of attending graduate school for his Doctorate in Physical Therapy in a few years. I want to buy him a book for his graduation geared toward the clinical practice of PT that he can reference now and use into his graduate career. Any suggestions? I am looking for a text that blends theory and practice. Thanks!

I'm currently entering DPT school coming from an Exercise Science undergrad. The most valuable book I own is Netter's Atlas of Human Anatomy. It serves as my go to book for many different reasons.

Netter's Atlas or Kendall's Muscles Testing and Function

Is the Netter atlas as good as everyone makes it out to be? I just received the textbook list from my PT program, I'm starting this May... they suggest the Theime atlas. What do you current PT students suggest? Get the Netter atlas, or stick with my school's suggestion of the Thieme atlas. Sorry for hijacking the thread, but you guys were already talking about books so I figured it would be better not to make an entire new thread.

I have both Netter's and the Thieme atlas, and I always reached for my Thieme atlas first when I took PT school gross anatomy. I thought it was a lot more helpful, because the drawings are clearer, and it has a lot more explanation to go with them. Netter's has a lot of great detailed artwork but just wasn't what I needed for PT school anatomy.

Netter's

Netter's book is great for learning about the body. However, the best sources for PT theory and practice are found in scientific journals. Keep in mind the literature to which I am referring is probably 'over his head' until he gets a good human science foundation which will be started in PT school. If you want a textbook specically I'd consider:
- Susan O'Sullivan's "Physical Rehab"
http://www.amazon.com/Physical-Rehabilitation-OSullivan/dp/0803612478

Or if he has an interest in orthopedics I'd consider:
-Mark Dutton's "Ortho Exam" http://www.amazon.com/Duttons-Ortho...aedic+examination+evaluation+and+intervention

-Mark Dutton's "Ortho Survival Guide" http://www.amazon.com/Duttons-Ortho...aedic+examination+evaluation+and+intervention
