Alright so I got into a few OOS schools but got waitlisted to my IS (UF). My IS will not tell me where I am on the waitlist and I have narrowed my choices down to two other schools.

UF will not tell me where I am on the waitilist. I have heard that most waitlisters get calls but I do know they increased the waitlist this year and obviously I cant assume this year will be the same. More importantly, I do not know when the waitilisters were notified. I was thinking that I could call them and ask when most waitlisters are usually notified.

Since I got into a few OOS schools, I cannot hold out for UF until the last month before school starts since I have to look for places to live etc at the OOS school I choose. I am thinking I would have to sign some type of lease in a few months before schools starts to ensure I find something. When should I give up on UF and focus everything on another school? I also have to take an animal science course for UF which might not be for anything.

Thank you!

While it sucks to lose money, you're not going to hear anything from your IS school until after April 15th. Personally, I was on 4 wait lists last year (one was my IS) and not a single one moved, so my perspective is a little harsh.

If you're going to hold out at all, I would probably give up fairly early into the summer. Maybe like end of June (I don't know really...), which I know isn't that far after April, but you still want to have time to go apartment/house hunting/find roommates and get settled into your new place if you have to go OOS...or even IS really. I'm sure you can find places later, but it might not be up to the standards or in a location you want. Also, the fact that you would still have to take a class for UF would make me hesitant, since you can literally get called off the wait list the day before classes start. I know Penn will call you up through the first day of orientation and I think Tufts gives it to sometime during the week of orientation. If that were to happen and you didn't take the class, well, there goes that. On the other hand, I wouldn't want to spend the extra money to pay for a class I wouldn't need elsewhere. I actually pulled myself off of the Tufts wait list last year sometime in July because I didn't think I could handle the transition at that point financially.

And I apologize if I seem negative, but it's kind of because of last year and my situation this year. The only school I got into is in the UK with an almost $2000 deposit due soon and I'm wait listed at 2 state side schools. I could accept losing a smaller deposit, but $2000 is a lot to lose when you don't have it, even if it's not a lot in the long run. So I guess I'm kind of freaking out like you.

ETA: And I totally feel like I didn't help at all...sorry! =(

Yea I do realize I would not hear anything until after April 15th. I was not sure when exactly I should start taking the animal course (online), maybe 1-2 weeks after the deadline? I also read on here that UF does not require a deposit to hold your spot, which could make things interseting on the waitilist.

Dont feel bad, you were honest. I am pessmistic as well.

Oh wow. That is interesting. Hmm. I thought all schools required one??? And I don't know...I would personally still be hesitant about the class, especially as an online one just because they known to be expensive. Of course approximately $1000 isn't a lot in the long run either.

I have to confirm that with them but someone on the forum mentioned that. The online course is actually not that expensive. I am mainly taking it since I can start and finish it whenever I want.

St. Petersburg has an online animal science class (UF approved) from 05/16-07/22 that's only $328.35 if you want to wait and take that one. It will give you more time to hear back. Animal science has to be done by August 13th I think.

Hopefully you can have my spot. I just got accepted to Davis and will most likely decline my spot at UF next week once I get everything sorted out. I don't know anything about waitlists so I can't offer any advice there. Good luck though!

How much do you want to go to UF?

You can choose an OOS school, put your deposit down there, and even sign a lease for next year.... and still break those if you get into UF. I would loose $500 for Penn's deposit + $980 for my apartment. Would that be worth it? IIRC, UF has super cheap IS tuition so it could definitely be worth your while to make a last minute switch. You can definitely find last minute housing in Gainesville. It may not be your #1 pick, but that's the hand you're dealt when you get waitlisted.
