Sorry to be posting something like this. I know there are a bunch of threads of people asking for advice but I really don't know what else to do.

So a little bit about myself...3.95 gpa, 4.0 science gpa. Biology major from Hawaii.
100 hrs shadowing and 100 hrs volunteering. I also have a certificate in dental assisting which involved 100+hrs of instruction and hands on work.

I will also be a WICHE applicant (if i get accepted by wiche), because my state does not have any dental schools.

I do not have my DAT scores yet because I will be taking them in mid July.
I know its hard to say for sure or make any decisions right now because I don't have my DAT scores, but I am confident that I will do fairly well (at least 19 on all sections).

Okay do with all of that said, I was planning on applying to

UCSF, UCLA, UoP, UW, UCDenver, and OHSU for a total of 6 schools.

First off, is applying to only 6 schools okay? I will not be able to afford to apply to any more than 7...and my family is basically unable to contribute any costs towards my education...

And also, from what I have stated so far, do I even have a chance of being accepted? Granted I don't royally screw up my interviews and DATs.

And lastly, if I am an OOS WICHE applicant, will I be competing with other OOS students for the OOS slots, or will I be competing with everyone else equally?

Thank you so much for your time. Im so stressed out in the midst of all my DAT studying, this is just a lot to deal with. I know this was a lengthy post but any input will be greatly appreciated!!!

Six schools should be okay if you have a decent DAT score. The rest of your stats look great. Good luck.

I've got a 4.0sGPA, 4.0BCP, 30 AA DAT. What are my chances?????!!! I wouldn't doubt someone would post a scenario like this.

With your 4.0 science GPA, shadowing, volunteering, and experience in the dental field, I have to wonder why you're even asking this question in the first place.

He's technically an oos and half the schools he's applying to are is-schools. There's nothing wrong with OP's question.

OP, why don't you ask the WICHE program and schools directly? You can get a much more accurate answer that way.

What he really wants to know is whether or not WICHE students are still regarded as oos at those is-schools, thereby having a disadvantage over is applicants. Read between the lines.

Why read between the lines when his questions are clearly laid out? His WICHE question is his third one, completely separate from his "do I even have a chance" question. Plenty of people with no IS school get accepted at OOS-friendly schools every year, and most of them don't have near perfect GPA's with all the necessary experience.

Were we supposed to be like "nah oGPA is only 3.95 and you haven't cured cancer, no chance try next cycle"?

Don't put him down because he asked 1 questionable question out of 3. He lives in Hawaii and this application cycle will cost him a lot. Just answer his question if you know it, is it that much of an effort?

It's better for him to learn not to come across as an overly anxious pre-dent on the forums rather than during an interview.

So, the way you chose to ease his anxiety was to basically telling him stop asking stupid questions and not answer other questions he asked? Harsh, man.

Also it's too bad UH does not have a DS. I would totally want to go there

Your DAT scores are the last piece of the puzzle, make sure you do well on those and you will have no problem getting interviews to schools. Beyond that is up to you, but good application stats should guarantee you some interviews.

If you're only applying to 6 schools, I would recommend to make one or two choices a private university, like NYU or Tufts (expensive schools but worth your time if you only get one acceptance).

UoP is private, but after looking the schools up, 5 out of 6 schools he wants to apply are public. Sucks that interviews would cost him $1k+ in just plane tickets.

No you're, right. I wrote this post out of an anxiety induced panic. Oddly, your sarcastic comments are helping me to realize how illogical I am being.

Thanks for your kindness and input...but yeah. I was just looking at the costs for everything yesterday and I just became overly anxious trying to figure everything out.

Is it okay that I'm only applying to 1 private school...or should I swap out some of the state schools on my list for some private ones? And if so are there others you recommend in addition to tufts and nyu like Anthony mentioned?

You have to figure out if you would be at a disadvantage for being oos even though you are a part of WICHE by asking the schools you've listed. Make sure to tell them that you live in Hawaii, so that they don't give you a bs answer. If they say you would be at a disadvantage, I would apply to 1 or 2 public schools and 4-5 private schools.

With your grades, I would apply to Columbia, UoP, and UPenn.
