Hi guys its my first semester in college as a biology major and I need some advice. I am currently taking 16 credits and doing very well except for one of my classes. I'm doing:
- Biology (A)
- Bio lab (A)
- Sociology (A)
- Psychology (A)
- English (A)
- Statistics (C-B)
Stats is giving my some trouble.
My quiz grades are: 4/10 (40), 9/10(90), and 10/10 (100).
Homework grade: 90
Exam: 69/100 (69)
I started off in stats with the 100 and 90 and now I'm in a slug. Do you recommend I keep the class or withdraw?

I'm not sure.. I'm gonna start going to tutoring now and visiting the professor at office hours for extra help. If I get a C should I drop it?

Hi ! Another Bear ! 🙂

I would say statistics aren't intrinsically difficult. You could probably buy a book (not sure what level you're at) to help. If you feel that it's going to ruin you, Withdraw while you can.. otherwise just pull up your socks and work harder

If I'm going to be totally honest with myself, if I were likely going to get a C in a class, I would probably withdraw and try again. I'm not saying this is the best course of action, just what I think I would do. If there were a decent chance of me pulling a B, I would probably suck it up and do everything I could to get the B.

Objectively, a single C is nowhere near the end of the world, especially since the rest of your coursework is stellar. You'll get ~3.6 (arbitrary calculation) for the semester, but that's not terrible at all. You seem to be taking steps to identify what is going wrong and fixing it. The question is whether or not you think that'll help.

Ok thank you for the advice @WedgeDawg

If you are struggling, ask your self why.

Is it the professor? If so, talk to them and if that doesn't help, you might have to withdraw.

Is it the subject itself? If so, use the internet, ask people what helped and learn the subject. If that doesn't help, withdraw and spend time learning statistics on your own so when you have to take the course again, you can ace it.

One C in a course won't kill you. Heck, even an F won't kill you.

Just do well everywhere else.

Will you have another exam before your school's withdraw date?
