Need help!!
So I am a recent graduate and I never had work experience besides ippe/appe. I applied to cvs and walgreens. I received an interview for both around the same time. However, when I interviewed for walgreens that same evening they offered me a position, I began working there not even a week now. Fast forward to now, cvs has also offered me a position and now I’m confused on which job to take.

Walgreens has offered me a floater position at 56$/ hr for 32 hours a week,
VS.
CVS has offered me a floater position for 40 hours where I would have a home store for 20 hours and float for the other 20 hours at $59.25/hr.
But like I stated I did start working at walgreens, I’m still in training!

Can anybody tell me about their experiences at both companies and any advice

You already started, right? Seems like there is no decision. Don't burn a bridge since you just graduated!

Not a retail pharmacist, but I wouldn't leave something similar to work at CVS instead for a few dollars extra. It won't make a difference in the end.

I'm sure someone else can give more specific pros/cons about the two companies.

My experience is with CVS. It is a horrible company, very high turnover rate. Pharmacists are burnt out, tech hours are being cut. That being said, 32 hours a week vs 40 hours is a lot of money, roughly 22k in extra income. I would highly consider the CVS offer. Unless you think that you can pick up more hours at Walgreens.

I would go for CVS. That extra 23K (may be 15K after tax) could go toward your student loan. It's tough as a new pharmacist and maybe even tougher to work for CVS...but you will master the work flow eventually. After all, they just bought Aetna...I can see some of my customers may leave to get prescriptions at CVS next year because their copay will be much cheaper. There are some pros and MANY cons with every company. If your goal is to get rid of student loan asap or save up to buy a house then go for the money. Good luck!

If you're burned out from school like I was (80+ hr weeks for me at least all throughout college) then 32 hr/wk is extremely relaxing and stress-relieving with plenty of time for family, friends, going out, reading, hobbies, etc. I plan on staying 32 a week for a few year to help me recover from burnout from school. So keep that in mind.

Without a doubt, stay with Walgreens. If you break it off now, you will almost certainly get blacklisted. Is that worth the risk?

1. Everyone is assuming you have student loan debt. Is this actually the case? I know a few who made it through debt free...if this is you, an easy 32 hr/wk might be nice.

2. The 32 hr/wk position guarantees you’ll get that minimum. In many markets you would have the opportunity to pick up extra shifts to get you up to 40, or more.

Yes I do have debt . But when I interviewed the dm did say it would be opportunity for OT. So maybe I need to confirm with him.

I’m already burned out and I haven’t really even started lol. Hospital is really where I wanted to work however I didn’t match and get residency. 32 hours does sound good to me esp that this is my first retail work experience but I do have loans to pay off.
