I wasnt sure how to start this post. I know i need advice im just not sure who to ask. Basically, i got really bad grades in highschool and I , really, want to be a doctor. I could go on and on making excuses about why or how, but that wont help. Im done a good amount of research and i know it is VERY hard to get into medschool. Im curious HOW hard. I figure my only route after getting my diploma would be to. First, to go to a community college and enroll in a transfer program to a 4 year. Then after completing the required courses with a gpa of atleast 3.6, apply to medschool. My question for all of you is: If i get really good grades premed and get a high MCAT score, will a medschool look past my highschool grades?

No one will care about your highschool grades. Try to get into a university as soon as possible. I'd try to aim for higher than a 3.6 in college though.

Good luck!

Medical schools will never know about your high school grades. You start with a clean slate as a freshman in college. Just get As from now on. Don't take too many courses the first semester. Have a regular study schedule in a quiet place. Ask for a tutor if your first test doesn't go well. Meet with the professor to ask questions and get extra help. Attend every class. Good Luck.

Yep high school grades are meaningless to med schools, and as others have said, they don't even see it.

The OP is in a position for redemption, however be sure to address within yourself, why you didn't do so hot in high school. Obviously college is a lot more tough than high school. On a side note, there's no minimal GPA that ensures your chances of getting into med school. A 3.6 is actually "average" here in California, and in some cases below average (UCSF). Same goes for MCAT. A good GPA/MCAT score is relative. The better you do, the better your chances are--but never any guarantees. Simple as that.

Getting good grades isn't rocket science, especially when you've learned how to study effectively, however what makes the med school application process hard is standing out. You're in the big leagues now, where tons of people have good grades, good MCAT scores, and a laundry list of extracurricular activities. The question is, what makes you a better candidate than the next best person? Thats why its hard😉. But you have a long ways to go. Focus on trasferring and a good GPA. Good luck!
