  1. Podiatry Student
I am about to start my 5th year and I will be graduating in the Fall 08', and I am taking the MCAT in January. I am just wondering how many of you guys in school or applying to school have your degrees? I want to wait till Fall to graduate but then again if I do well enough on the MCAT I would like to go ahead and apply and start pod in the Fall. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks.

When I applied to allopathic and osteopathic schools (which was this august 2007), I didn't have my degree yet as I graduate Spring of 2008. However, I took the MCAT prep course this past spring and the MCAT on July. Scored pretty well, if I say so myself. Im sure you'll have no problem in applying to podiatry schools; just make sure you tell them that you're graduating on Fall 2008. I would suggest you start reviewing for your MCATs now, preferably take the KAPLAN course. If you score around a 24, I'm sure you'll be more than great for any podiatry school. If, however, you change your mind and decide to go the allopathic and osteopathic path, a score of 28 or higher is preferred.

Good luck, mate 👍

i would apply now and interview. tell the schools you interview with about your situation. if you have the 90 credit hours and your pre-med done, you shouldn't need a degree. a 24 on mcat should be fine, and you should be able to do that with no sweat. (thats slightly better than 50%) if you are serious about a DPM degree, i see no need for a bachelor's, unless of course you decide to apply to allopathic....where did that come from??
apply and interview. if your grades are descent, you should be fine!

Actually, some of the schools will grant you a B.S. after completing 2 years of basic sciences. For instance, you can get a B.S. from Rosalind Franklin University after completing 2 years at Scholl. I believe some other schools do this as well.

I would apply now, Good Luck

Thanks alot for the feedback, it was very helpful!

People change, lol. I was originally pre-med however i worried last year during my MCAT test preps that my score wouldnt be 'good enough' for some allo and osteo schools, so i looked into podiatry. Considered it, but really didnt have the love for it as I have for traditional medicine (internal medicine in particular). That and my MCAT score was..pretty nice.
So far, got into several allopathic and osteopathic schools (have an interview with Temple, Wright State and DMU this month and on dec). Now I'm just trying to decide what school to pick . Ah the hardest part, LOL!
My advice to the OP is to consider all your options, but if providence provides a way, take the bait.

And prepare for the long haul. 👍

Good luck, mate.
