Hi Guys,

I am currently a Junior, who is on the pre-dental track. My overall GPA is 3.0 and my science GPA is around 2.5. I have some community service experience, but I have a pretty solid research experience i.e. I have been published and etc.

I am studying for the DAT and will probably take it over the summer (Late August). I am also planning to take a year off after I graduate, but haven’t decided anything yet. So I was wondering if I can get some advices on how I can make myself a stronger candidate for dental school, that would be great.

Thank You.

You could spend that year you plan taking off in a masters program in an attempt to get your GPA up to a level where schools might look at your application...

Agreed, very rarely does a 3.0 cut the mustard. If you can get your GPA up at all, do more shadowing and get some great LORs, maybe do a little dental related research, a masters, and knock out that DAT, then I think you stand a chance. Just being honest with you, it is extremley competitive now to get into dental school, but occasionally those with low GPAs do get looked at as the process is kinda random at times. I'd definitely look into a masters before anything else, and ace the DAT.
