I am scheduled to take my DAT at the end of the summer. I have not taken BioChem or A & P yet, but I have taken all of my other core sciences classes. Will this affect my score?? If so, what materials could I pick up to cover background material of these courses?

Please I really need help making this decision! I am a sophmore in the middle of finals week, bio major chem minor with a 3.44 gpa. (straight A's this semester so that will boost that) I am taking the Kaplan course this summer, plus lot of extra materials. (destroyer, Topscore, Princeton review, etc) I am getting knee surgery, so I will be unable to work this summer, so I will have all summer to devote to studying. I have taken zoo, botany, genetics, cell, and evolution. Also, Gen chem, analytical, and Orgo I and II, but I have not taken A & P or ecology. (will take those fall and spring semester next year) So my question is should I take the DAT in August like planned, so I have time for a retake, or wait until later in the school year after I have had more courses and maybe more time to study. I dont want to have to retake!! Sorry this is so long, but I also have another question. My father and brother are both dentists and are alumni of the SIU where I want to apply. Will this help my chances? Or should I not even count on that making a difference because I know somebody in the same position and didn't get in. Any response would be greatly appreciated!!

the fact that your family went to the same dental school may help you if you make a good point on why you want to follow their footsteps either in your essay or interview. but it shouldn't be a free pass for you to get in.

I think you'll be fine with taking the test this summer. if you wait until you take the other upper level courses, you'll forget a lot of orgo and gc stuff.

that's just my opinion... i guess you do have time to wait to take the dat since you're only a sophomore.

Is it unusual to take the DAT during the sophomore summer or do lots of people do it that way? I just feel that will give me the most amount of time to prepare.
