Need advice

I have seen that most schools that do rolling admission, or just matriculation for fall 2011 in general, started their application cycle on june 4th, 2010. Its not into late July. Is it too late for me to send my applications into these schools? Im asking because I have less than a stellar GPA(around a 3.0), so I wanted to know if its late, or early enough that I would have a goodf shot at getting a serious look at early admission/rolling admission schools??

PS....i take the PCAT in august, and am missing a few pre-reqs(micro, speech) will this affect my application?

That was the date PharmCAS opened for this cycle so most schools will use that as the starting date. I would apply as soon as possible. Try and see if you can get it submitted by the end of the month or the beginning of August. You should be ok especially if the schools you are applying to don't use a tier system.

Delano, thanks for all your advice on this site. Im more of a lurker, and notice you have been a huge help. What is a tier system? and what schools do you think I should send applications to? Ill go anywhere in the USA, it dont matter. lol

My stats are around exactly a 3.0, and I still have a full year of classes(Fall 2010/spring 2011) in which I will be taking biochemistry, physics, physcotherapy, micro, and fill in classes) Assuming I do well and can pull off a cumulative GPA of around a 3.1-3.2......what are my chances, if my PCAT is around 80ish.....

Please offer me advice on schools I should apply to, ill send out around 5-8 applications.....Thanks Bro

Tier schools are schools that have rolling admissions. For example, UOP has 1st, 2nd, and 3rd tiers. If you submit your apps in July, UOP considers you as 1st tier, and doing so would supposedly give you the highest chance for an interview. 2nd tier are for applicants in August, and 3rd tier after August. These month ranges are for UOP, so I'm not sure if it's the same for other rolling admissions schools.

I'd suggest you to apply to schools you are interested in or the programs that would fit your goals. 5-8 schools is usually good number of schools to apply to, but if you're worried about your gpa meeting the schools' requirements, I'd add a couple more. Best of luck on your remaining classes and the PCAT.

Musicman, Im not kidding. Just throw schools out that you know of that are not incredibly hard to get into....im talking like a rolling admission school, with around a 3.0-3.2 avg GPA, and an 80ish PCAT. Ill go anywhere, except hawaii and alaska, seriously.

Anyone else can chime in, there are no restrictions on where I can go in the continental USA. Ill go anywhere I have to, to make my pharmacy dream a reality.

P.S. - how will pharmcas recieve my LOR's and if I e-submit, how will I report my grades of future classes to these schools(my remaining undergrad classes)?

Honestly, I do not know schools that are "not incredibly hard" to get into. Maybe other people do. If you want to know school stats, the AACP website should have a table that lists them. http://www.aacp.org/resources/student/pharmacyforyou/admissions/Pages/PSAR.aspx

PharmCAS will give you 2 options for LOR: mail or electronic. Electronic is preferable, in which you list the name of your references and PharmCAS will send an email notification to the references to submit a LOR for you. They will then submit it back to PharmCAS. Later in the app cycle, there will be a window where you can report your Fall grades. After the winter and spring quarters (or spring semester), schools will ask you to send your transcript to them individually.

Get your application in by the end of next week. That way, you'll have it in the mail and at the school by the end of the first week of August. I didn't send mine out until the first or second week of August last year, and I ended up fine.

Like someone said you have to choose programs that you are interested in. We may not be interested in the same programs. I am sure you can get in somewhere (assuming you meet the other requirements). If you were able to increase your GPA to a 3.2 with a PCAT in the 80ish percentile then you're chances would be pretty decent.

GPA of 3.0 is not a deal breaker on its own; especially with an 80 PCAT score. Your EC's and your work experiences are what will get you in, you personal statement also matters. In addition, you shouldn't apply to just any school because they will ask you "why us?" - and you will have to seem genuine when you answer that.

OP, you're definitely not too late in applying. I have about the same stats as you (3.12 GPA, 80 PCAT) and last year I was accepted to all 5 schools I interviewed at after submitting PharmCAS at the end of October. So don't give up just because you think it's too late in the game or think that you don't have a shot. JUST APPLY.

Hmmmm that just put alot more hope in myself. I hope to score atleast an 80 on the PCAT. As for applying all over, and answering the "why us?" question, I guess I have to come up with something...lol

Short answer yes. The only thing is that if the LORs are not yet received then PharmCAS may not consider your application complete.

I thought PharmCAS doesn't start sending apps out till August 2nd anyway?
