Good day fellow future dentist!!!! I need some advise on what to take this fall semester...I am applying for 07 cycle and planning to re-take the DAT in NOV. I am planning to take Organic, Biochemistry, and Microbiology. Actually I bypass some issues of pre-req of Biochemistry....and my advisor allow me take Biochemistry, but my concern is I can only take 2 classes this semester(personal issue). I do not know if Biochemsitry or Microbiology should I take this semester along Organ, I know some dental school require Biochemistry, but Biochemsitry require knowledge in Organic Chem am I right?...anyway any advise will be very helpful to me........

No, you don't need organic chemistry for biochemistry. As long as you have taken regular chemistry and general biology you will be fine.

I do not know if that is correct, most of schools that I know require Organic chem I and II as the pre-req for Biochemistry.

I think what he means is that the isn't anything you'll learn in organic Chem I and II that you will need to know to get a decent grade in Biochemistry. It's not like taking Advanced Genetics without having ever taken Bio 101. You can still do fine in Biochem without O-chem. Your particular school may require that you have o-chem completed before taking Biochem, however, that is school-specific

ok, understood. thanks for comment.

I thought Biochem I touches partly on mechanims involved for some TCA and/or some ohther biochemical reactions. You're going to have hard time understanding them without any OChem background.

you are right!!!!! today was my first day of biochem class and the professor was talking about functional group of carbohydrates, lipids, protein. But I am also taking Ochem I same time, professor was fine with the fact that I do not have Ochem background since I am taking Ochem I at same time. I guess I have study harder!!!!😀
