Hello SDNers,
I am not applying this cycle, and wondering if I have to re-take the DAT for the sole reason of RC. I got 23/25/20 AA/TS/PAT but a 17 on RC. I've searched this forum and it seems like RC is important, and may be considered as the most important subject since it is highly correlated to the success in D-school. I know that most schools' cutoff line is 17, but I don't think getting a 17 is safe. So please share your thoughts.

Thank you.

Wow killer scores.
I would probably go with these scores. Unless you are confident that you will not drop in the other areas for the retake.

I wouldn't retake.

Are you confident enough to get a 25TS again?

Plus, reading comprehension is something you develop through a lifetime, and is arguably the hardest section to improve on within a short amount of time.

23AA is a solid score.

Assuming GPA above 3.3 I wouldn't retake. Even below that it isn't a definite must, but I might consider a bit more.

Seriously? Is this a joke? You scored in the 99th percentile and you are asking if you should retake it? Maybe it is true... There is no relationship between book smart and common sense...

👍👍👍👍👍

No retake

My friend pretty much had the mirror image of your score. I think in fact she might have had the same exact TS and RC of yours. She got plenty of interviews, so don't worry about it.

And pretty much what AlbinoPolarBear told you is so true. It is not like your RC will improve dramatically in such a short period.

Thank you guys for the advice. The reason why I posted this thread is because some posts said RC score is weighed the same as the TS score. And English is my second language so I thought Dental schools would look at the RC score more than the native speakers. Thank you again!

It is true that your RC performance has the highest correlation to dental school performance. However, it is not true that they are "highly" correlated. To be honest, nearly every section has a very low correlation, with RC being the highest of those low correlations. It is also true that dental school see it as important, but with an AA of 23, you should be golden. This goes to show how many other factors come into play when trying to determine how well you will perform in dental school. I believe that simply doing well on the DAT shows a school that you are smart, but doing well in the interview is really where they see if you have the stuff to do well in dental school (personality traits and stuffs like that). Good luck buddy!! 👍

My friend got a 20 AA and a 14 RC and got into a school, english was his second language as well.

WOW.........This is really very nice source.

You appear to be confident that you will improve your RC while the others will remain the same. Of course, you could be mistaken and end up with a lower RC not to mention lower overall scores.

you should only retake if you dont get in this cycle. it doesnt make any sense to retake without applying.
