as has been done about 100x on this forum already, i need an honest opinion from ya'll:
here are my stats:
cum GPA:3.6
sci gpa: 3.6ish

DAT (just took TODAY!):
QR:19
RC:23
Bio:20

PAT: 16 :scared:

i'm a CA resident...etc etc.shadowing, good LOR's, tons of ex.curriculars etc.
IS MY PAT really going to KILL my application?

I'm pretty sure I am going to retake the DAT, what do you guys think?

applying to: ucla, usc, uop, ucsf, loma linda, nyu, bu, columbia

i'm not gonna lie to u......16 is not a good grade , but u've done well at your bio , chem, and org chem...also u'r gpa is good......i think u'r at good shape, i'm sure that at least 2 of these schools will take u.
good luck!! 👍 :luck:

i would delete your post immediately if you don't want to get flamed

WOW - if that 16 was a 19 or above - i would say that you have the 'perfect' application

16 on the PAT? I'm sorry - I just cannot get over it! You have such a perfect application - (if i could bs my numbers - they would look like yours)

Are you not good at Perceptual Skills? Because that is one of the hallmarks of a dentist!

Allright - so far I've posted a bunch of blah blah blah - some real advice:

If I knew I could get those 20's again, then I would definately try to increase the PAT - otherwise - LEAVE IT.

Having said that - you got a 16! Yeah - I've changed my mind - RETAKE IT

contact your favorite admissions person at the schools your applying to and listen to what they have to say.
best result: they give you a better idea of what to do.
worst result: you waste 24 minutes.
if they clear anything up, do everyone a favor on SDN and share their comments. my $.02.

Do you have any idea what you are talking about...plenty of people on this forum and in dental schools across the country have gotten a 16 on their PAT and still have received an acceptance (I know--its a miracle, right?). Dude, you have applied 4x and havent gotten in....your advice is just plain wrong! I would take you more seriously if you had an acceptance letter sitting on your desk. (DONT LISTEN TO THIS DUDES ADVICE). THIS GUY IS THE REASON SDN DRIVES ME NUTS...DO YOU HAVE PROOF THAT A 16 WILL EARN YOU AN AUTOMATIC REJECTION? I liked it better when you were on probation.

I got a 16 on my PAT and I got in to 2 schools...I know at least 4 other students who are at, or will be attending dental school (quality schools) in the fall who had a 16 on their PAT. Those people are in my classes and those who I know through friends, etc. I think the average PAT is 16-17...so its not a "bad" score. I would say anything below a 16 would warrant a retake.

To the OP, unless you want to go to UOP desperately, dont worry!!!!! You will get in to at least 2-3 of the schools on your list (if you apply early). Your gpa is good...your science DAT is also good...and you went to a great undergrad institution. Just chill out and get ready to interview.

One last note on the PAT and the DAT. The sciences, math and reading sections are subjects that involve your ability to study and take in information and spit it back out...whereas the PAT measures your ability to interpret architectural drawings...so does that mean with some practice and more practice that you cant fine tune this skill? For that matter does it mean you will be a bad dentist or cant learn the hand skills to become a dentist? Simple answer is NO!
