I don't remember. Maybe just 1 or 2 questions on the forms I had last Oct & Nov.

i remeber they asked some oddball question about birds being the only animal that has feathers, beak, etc etc

i think i put the answer was feathers because i knew squids have little beaks too

I never had to take the PCAT but can someone tell me what the point is of asking a question like that? "I feel like i'm taking crazy pills!"

it reminded me of the 5th grade iowa standardized tests that asked "how many legs does a dog have"

some things you never never never forget.

Why did the Jones' rename their quadruple-amputee dog, Cigarette?

Cuz everynight they took him out for a roll.

  What about the paralyzed daschunds in the little wheel chari things for their back ends?

That counts as two legs

😎 back on topic guys, i'm back 😱

Just wondering, should i bust my brains over the kreb cycle? and all the glucose catabolism crap?

This kaplan book is getting me worried about the pcat..

You're not alone. The Kaplan book is freaky. I was a sucker and paid $19 for the practice exam from Harcourt. If that's what the test is about, I'll do alright. I might have to retake it to do fantastic, but I'm thinking this might be a test of endurance rather than a test of knowledge. My biggest problem is that I have to bother with it at all. It strikes me as a huge racket.

The Kaplan book is making me feel like a dumb a$$. The Barron's book is making me feel like a genius. So Im taking a Harcourt practice tonight to see, from the horses mouth so to speak, what its really like.

When I studied for the test and took practice tests I felt okay. When it came time for the real thing I figured I would do okay. The thing that spooked me was the chem and math sections were 60 questions in 30 minutes. Now I don't know about you, but doing long division and intergral problems in 30 seconds is difficult. Any geo problems that require three different calculations in 30 second were hard.
Same for the chem section. Can you look at a formula and instantly know how you need to do the problem? This is what you need to be able to do in order to finish these sections in the time limit.
So the long answer to your question is yes you should know about the kreb's cycle, just for the fact that if it is on the test, you need to be able to quickly recall the info you need and answer the question. You can't sit and think about a kreb problem for 30 seconds trying to recall what you learned 4 years ago.

yeah i was just wondering about that as well.. (math)
does anyone actually finish it on time?

yesterday I timed myself using kaplans 20 mins for 30 questions,
I only managed to get 22 questions done, and 20 correct.. cuz i was rushing them

they should have a good mix on the real exam though r ight? to make it actually possible to finish a few questions in 10 seconds?

Here's what Im going to try:

If I cant figure out what's going on with a problem in a few seconds Im going to eenie miney mo it between the two most likely answers. Then maybe I can come back to it later. But I at least want all the bubbles filled in because even totally randomly guessing you still have a 1/4 chance, which might actually be better odds that having me try to do math 😉 .

krebs cycle? good lord no. nothing that complex on my exam.

The most you'd have to know are like the fact 2 thingies of pyruvate are formed for each glucose during glycolysis

and that NADH is like energy in the bank

surface stuff you know,

if you feel like a genius taking the study guides you will do fine on the pcat i can almost gurantee it (unless you go ballistic )

I've always been a supporter of being over-prepared.

Prep w/ Kaplan.

You'll walk out of the PCAT feeling like a million bucks.

Plus you'll need to know the stuff anyway for school.

OxPhos really isn't that hard to learn if you take it one step at a time and remember the big picture.

i'd feel the same way about that... about being over prepared, but in reality i only have 2 more days to study =s

oh well its alright now, i managed to do all the biol (only human biol.) and chem/math section .. just verbal now :scared:

verbal was the easiest part.

no reading comp was the easiest. Read a boring paragraph and answer questions. gosh was that even necessary?

O man, Verbal is THE WORST!
I'm doing practices on kaplan and wow.. I keep scoring with 50%'s

how much is it scaled? (how do ppl usually do on it?)

my mind is so incredibly verbal that the verbal part of the test was like 1st grade stuff to me.

i felt the same way about math as you did about verbal...I had long forgotten calculus and did not study it because i figured NO WAY. so i didnt prepare for math scored low on it but scored high in everything else and still got a 99 percent composite.

even if you have a weak point on the test it doest mean the other sections wont boost you

AubieRX, if you dont mind, what did you get on your subscores?

Yeah, Im counting on my Verbal and Reading Comp scores to really offset my math. Verbal and RC are tricky because its easy if you know it, but there is really no good way to study for it. Kaplan is pretty notorious for hard verbal, I've heard that most of the stuff on the PCAT is SAT caliber difficulty (read: not very).

FungManX are you taking the test tomorrow? Stop studying! Relax! I know I cant cram any more in at the last minute. At most I will look over math formulas...

Yeah my test is in exactly 24 hours

Don't worry... I usually cram and do fine .. hopefully it'll work out well this time as well, but i'm starting to think it might not.. the chem on kaplan just started kicking my ass

I only remember verbatim the ones i got 99s in the others are estimates

reading 99 percentile
verbal 99 percentile
bio 99 percentile
chem 89 percentile
math 60 percentile

and actually i never took an official calc course (took an ONLINE precalc course at VT for 2 semesters but harrison accepted it) in my life nor did i study for the math part
