I was wondering if anyone who is knowledgable could shed some light on this situation:

A Canadian citizen completing their MD in the Caribbean, what are the chances of being able to practice here once a residency is finished?

I've found conflicting information, I'd be interested to hear from you guys. Thanks.

This is what I said in my PM to you:

As Canadian citizens, we are in a difficult situation at home and abroad.

Our chances are presently slim but they do exist. In fact, about 10-20 Canadians scored Canadian residencies last match. They are in primary medicine, but some people don't care as long as they come back to Canada.

It is an involved process that begins with making sure you qualify for the Canadian match. That means taking the Canadian boards while taking the USMLEs and keeping in contact with provincial medical boards to stay up-to-date with any changes.

Besides residency, you could also complete a residency in the US and then apply for a fellowship in Canada. That has been done before.

Let me know if you have any other questions.
