I joined a fellowship (IM Subspeciality) last year and later on realized that this was not the field i was particularly interested in🙁. Now after completing one year, i cannot take it any more. I have no interest in this field and even i do not plan on working in this field in the future. I find myself more interested in GIM and primary care/hospitalist work. I feel desperate and want to resign from this fellowship now, not to waste their's or my own time. Besies prior to joining this fellowship, i had already worked in primary care for a couple of years and had really enjoyed it. I have fallen behind with my scholary activities and research work at the fellowship and my lack of interest is now obvious to others in the fellowship program, which has also created a lot of tension within the program. My quitting will not create much of an issue for the program as they have more fellows then are needed for the program itself.
Can someone suggest me the implications of quitting a fellowship program??
Would i be in any trouble if i apply for any future primary care jobs??
Would quitting be on my records for ever??
Would there be any trouble in applying for hospital privileges or state licenses in the future??
Please advice me what to do??
