I will be applying for 2027 cycle and I want honest opinions about my chance of getting into DO schools, and the schools I should apply to

TX Resident
Undergrad: Vanderbilt (Class of 25)
cGPA: 3.73 sGPA: 3.56
MCAT (3 Attempts)- 502, 505 (126/123/128/128), 504 (127,126,125,125)

Currently on my gap year, working full-time in clinical setting
3yrs of undergrad science research
100hrs of ER volunteer
50hrs of shadowing MDs (planning to shadow DO and get LOR)
Started public health awareness club that did service project to underserved population during college

The two big questions I have are:
1. Will I get into at least one decent DO school, assuming I write solid personal statement and prepare the app on time?
2. What are some DO schools that I will be competitive for that you guys recommend?

You are competitive for most DO schools with your stats. I suggest these schools:
TCOM
SAM HOUSTON STATE
UIWSOM
OSU-COM
ATSU-KCOM
KCU-COM
DMU-COM
AZCOM
CCOM
NYITCOM
Touro-NY
MU-COM
CUSOM
WVSOM
ACOM
VCOM (all 4 schools)

What feedback have you gotten from your prehealth advisors?

I would like to see more non-clinical community service experience (food distribution, shelter volunteer, job/tax preparation, legal support, transportation services, or housing rehabilitation). In-person. At least 150 hours before submitting.

Depending on where you grew up in Texas, you might be a good fit with regional-mission TMDSAS schools that offer MD degrees.

Thx for the reply Goro. Do you think it's worth applying to some regional-mission based TX MD schools as TX resident? Im aware my mcat is no where competitive and I don't plan to retake.

Thank you for the reply. Do you think I can at least get 1-3 acceptances if I apply early and broadly?

Yes, as long as you interview well.
I have shadowed MDs but not DOs. Should I shadow DOs and secure a LOR, or is MD shadowing enough?

Also, do you think it's worth applying to some regional mission-based TX MD schools as a TX resident? I'm aware my MCAT is nowhere competitive, and I don't plan to retake.

MD shadowing if fine for most DO schools but there are a few that recommend or require a DO LOR. Yes, apply to several of the Texas MD schools.
