Hey everyone, I was wondering if you can help me with these problems on the 2009 ada? Thankssss

1. The order are these have thought to have appeared on the primitive earth?

1. Proteinoids (precursors of amino acids)
2. Protocells
3. Inorganic molecules such as H 2 O and CO 2
4. Small organic molecules such as methane

2. What characteristic in a newborn would be the best evidence that nondisjunction occurred during meiosis in one of the baby's parents?

Is it karyotype shows abnormal number?

newborn has heart defect
The newborn is diagnosed mentally ******ed.
Testing of DNA shows a defective gene.
Karyotype shows a malformed chromosome.
Karyotype shows an abnormal number of chromosomes.

3. If nondisjunction of chromosome 21 occurs during meiosis I of spermatogenesis, which statement would be true about the resulting four sperm?

Would all four sperm lack it?

Two sperm would lack chromosome 21.
Three sperm would lack chromosome 21.
All four sperm would lack chromosome 21.
One sperm would have an extra copy of chromosome 21.

4. Which determines primary structure of a protein?

is it seq of nucleotides in mRNA?

5. In terms of its function in a bird embryo, which extra-embryonic membrane acts as an early urinary bladder?

is it the allantois?

chorion
allantois
amnion
placenta
yolk sac

On number 3, when non-disjunction occurs in meiosis I, 2 of the gametes will have 1 less chromosome, while the other 2 will have 1 extra chromosome. When nondisjunction happens in meiosis 1, all 4 of the gametes are messed up.

if it happens during mitosis (or meiosis II) tho, only 2 of the gametes are affected. one will have 1 extra chromosome and one will have 1 less.

im pretty sure ur right on #2 and #4, too.

1. I believe the order is 3,4,1,2...

For 2 and 3, I agree with "johnny".

4. Primary structure of proteins is usually determined by the sequence of amino acids... But what were your options for this question?

5. Yes, allantois.
