Hi everyone! First thread here but been a long time reader. Anyways, I recently graduated uni..majored in Biology and have been on the fence about med school. But, I want to give it my all and apply. I have all the preqs but I'm having some difficulty calculating my science gpa. My overall gpa is a 3.55. I understand that I really shouldn't apply for this cycle seeing that I would be at a disadvantage since I haven't taken the MCAT. The post bacc program at the state college only recommends students Medpath OSU. Should I just take the MCAT in september. Or is it too late?
Also, can I submit my amcas application without an MCAT. I understand that is not considered complete.

Any advice will be helpful

Thanks in advance.

-AMCAS calculates your overall and science GPAs, so there's no need for you to do it, unless you're worried that it might be too low to get a look from an admissions committee.

-A September MCAT is very late, and you'll absolutely miss application deadlines because of it. Better to take your time prepping for the MCAT, take it when you're ready, and apply for the following year.

-You can submit the AMCAS application without the MCAT, but most schools won't look at your application (both primary and secondary) until they've received all your materials.

Thanks urrugby. I guess the question now is that if I assume through just eye balling my science gpa (mostly B+s, few Bs and A-s) is roughly around 3.45 what can I do to increase it? Should I do postbacc, SMP or just pretty much take upperlevel classes at my state university.

Ideally, i would like to apply for 2010/2011 next June. I am open to doing either the Drexel DPMS or GEMs programs but that would require me to take off 3 yrs before entering medschool.I'd prefer just doing things on my own while working to increase my gpa like taking 5-8 more classes of upperlevel science classes.
Any advice would be much appreciated!🙂
