Hey all, I am a Michigan resident and the only two schools I've been accepted to are MSUCOM and CMED. I feel like MSUCOM would be a better fit for me, living expenses would be cheaper for me, and I prefer the lansing area over mt. pleasant. That being said I think CMED is a great school, and I'm pretty sure I want to specialize in psychiatry rather than do primary care. Would going DO make it harder to go into my preferred field? What do you think I should do?

Psychiatry has not historically been a tough field for DOs. The issue I have is, you say you want to do psychiatry now, but who knows what you'll be interested in when it's actually time to decide. In early med school I was all about declaring how happy I'd be to match community pediatrics in a small town. I eventually matched OB (in a major city) after flirtations with peds or IM subspecialties and ENT-which was a total surprise. All that to say, I would have been miserable doing what I thought I'd be happy doing before I knew any better.

My advice is, if you have the opportunity to go MD, do it. Keep as many future doors open as possible.

Congratulations!!
