What is the standard allowed dosage for the following growth hormones for animals?

melengestrol acetate (MGA)
Trenbolone acetate
Zeranol
recombinant bovine growth hormone (rBGH)

Or if you could point me to a good online source to look these up, that would be cool too. I googled but came up with nothing. 👎

You can find an online version of Plumb's Veterinary Drug Handbook at the Veterinary Information Network (VIN): http://www.vin.com - but you must be a member (veterinary students can join for free).

Any other source to look up? I'm not a Vet student.

Since the drugs you're interested in seem to be mostly used in food animals, you might find info about them on USDA or agricultural sites. There have probably been a lot of research papers published regarding growth hormone that might tell you what the legally permitted dosages are.

just wondering... why do you need this information?

My girlfriend is writing a paper about it. I'm only helping her to find the information since she thinks I can find them because I'm a pharmacist in training. I'm still looking for the information though, I appreciate your help.

Hey did you try this online source? Just type in the drug names, click the link under table:synthetic steroid hormones and I think they will give you the standard dosage.

http://www.merckvetmanual.com

you might have already tried this link but check the left side and click pharmocology under that is a sub-title for growth hormone. It might be generic. I don't know if it has the exact specific drugs you're looking for.
Good Luck!

Thanks all - I was recommended by the Vet school here to look in the COMPENDIUM OF VETERINARY PRODUCTS under their tradenames and I got them all.

Legally, certain drug dosages (non OTCs) cannot be published online or for public use. If you go to any pharm manufacturer website, at the bottom of each drug fact sheet it says something to the effect of:

"Drug dosages are not listed for legal purposes, please consult your medical health care provider for more information"
