So I have a 3.2 GPA (I know its horrible) with a 32 MCAT, I applied to some SMPs. I just wanted to know which SMP gives me best chance to offset my low GPA and make me more competitive for med school.

USF MS in Medical Science
Tulane Cellular biology
Case Western MS in pathology
NYMC Basic Medical Sciences

Do those programs offer med school courses? I know NYMC has an Accelerated Masters Program which does. I would recommend expanding your list and include schools which allow you to take medical school courses alongside medical students. Georgetown, Boston U, Drexel, EVMS, UCinci, RFU come to mind right now. Goodluck!

Well these are the SMPs I have gotten into so far, the NYMC SMP I got into is their accelerated program

None of these listed programs are SMPs. Just fancy masters programs. Do better research.

OP one thing you need to realize is that just because a program calls itself an SMP, doesn't mean it is reputedly so.

I contacted the programs, so far I contacted Tulane program and USF they both told me stories about how they got ppl into med school after completing the program. USF program states it has a 80% chance of getting people into professional school.
So how does that not count as a SMP?

Lets take it in turn:

What does that mean? That sounds very generic to me. Don't be impressed by anything except raw data. Raw data showing a large % of graduates matriculating into U.S. med schools.

USF program states it has a 80% chance of getting people into professional school.
So how does that not count as a SMP?

According to wikipedia, here is a list of every professional school out there:

I'm shocked they're not closer to 90%

Edit: In case your wondering, there really isn't a list anymore. You just have to do your own research.

well they defined professional schools as: "medical, dental, pharmacy, physical therapy, physician assistants, veterinarian and law school," so I get what you mean.

So none of these programs are any good then?

Only you can answer that. For every program you apply to, you have to find out if they fit the criteria of an SMP. That being said...I doubt it.

Thanks for the help, I feel as though I have to do some sort of 1 year masters to offset my GPA. It's so hard to get info from these schools on their raw data

Yea it's a grind. Welcome to the club!

The only true SMP on this list is the NYMC accelerated program. It is the only program on this list where you are taking medical school classes and being compared against actual medical school students. That is the program I would go to. Here is a link to a blog written by a current student in the program: https://theskinnynymcamp.wordpress.com/ Here is the link to the program thread here on SDN: http://forums.studentdoctor.net/threads/nymc-accelerated-m-s-program.514521/

Read up on the program before making a decision but that is the one I would choose.

In my opinion, the other programs are only really worth it if you already live in those cities and can live at home and do them as a regular masters or if you already had a goodish gpa and just needed a slight boost.
