Hey friends!
I was wondering if anybody living in NJ/NY would like to join for group studies and group discussions? may be we can unit somewhere at the nearby library or so ...😉 , I think that will help a lot in getting good scores. :xf:

great guys. we just need to figure out when and where to meet ASAP. this is gonna work out great i think ... i am excited to share our brain and crack DAT.

Let's plan something ASAP. I think Manhattan library will be the best option to get together. other opinions are most welcomed. 🙂

oh oh!!! how about Manhattan? is that too far from you ? i am sorry i am not familiar with that area so i don't know how far it is from 42nd st. NY.
actually i don't drive, so it have to be nearby public transportation. that is why i would like to meet at Manhattan if it's convenient for everybody.

are we gonna discuss the problems? I think it's best to pick certain number of questions from a problem set, like DAT Destroyer, and discuss the questions that we don't get. That way we can figure out which qeustions to ask and have common study material to talk about.

Otherwise we might spend out time to just talk about DAT and not doing any work related to DAT. But I think it will be really nice to hear personal experience from Invictus in person.

yeah thats why I think like meeting once a week will be good so that we can discuss our problems that we came across during 1 week of study. like you said, we should choose a common material and topic and study over one week of time and then come up with the problems or new ideas.
What do you guys think?

Manhattan is kinda far from me, but you guys do your own thing. Ill figure something out.

Hahahah, hey all! Thanks for the compliments!! I actually live in Queens, but I go to the city on a daily basis, including weekends so... yeah, hahaha. I can most likely help you all with organic chemistry, like actually legit explain the mechanism and why you do stuff, hahaha at least a VAST majority of the reactions in DAT Destroyer. I'll do what I can! I'll throw in some tips about the exam.

But in regards to your study plan, you guys need to plan a whole load of material to study for a week this way all of you will have a BUNCH of questions. And I agree! Choose a common topic so everyone's on the same page!

hey guys I can def meet in the city. and bring bunch of stuff with me. what day works best for everyone? This week is a bit better than next week because I have an orgo exam I will need to focus on starting next week. Lets arrange a common date that works for all or most of us and meet up.

Hahaha, it's nice that you all are really psyched about meeting up! When do you all PLAN to take the exam? This way I can try to help you all out beforehand!

I'm pretty much swamped in schoolwork so maybe I'll catch all of you after my finals (May 16th).

invictus, im taking it early to mid june. Im also wrapping up finals and will be free on may 25th, maybe sometime after that? If you want we can even chat on google or on the phone. I'd want to hear more about your experience and areas of difficulties vs. problem solving (because I feel I can always get the solution from the destroyer, sdn or google.)

Hm, maybe we can all have a chat session in a chatroom or something like that to be fair so everyone can hear about it, hahaha. I think people should have questions in mind so the chat session, either in person or via chat, would be effective.

Let me know what other people think!

PS. wired, how long have you prepared for the exam? If you have any questions about orgo, let me know.

paras, life is too funny! i was just sending out a letter to the same exact building where you'll be tomorrow (i'm supporting the NY Public Library with a donation for all the years where I used to take books for free, really great resource.) Thanks for the heads up notification.

Invictus, I've been prepping on and off in Jan and February, I really hit the ground running mid-March to now. I'm wrapping up Orgo II so im weak in the aldehyde and carboxylic acid derivatives (Claisen reaction, beta carbons, etc.) im slowly getting better I've read up some stuff via KBB for Orgo II and it seems to have helped. I have both copies of the Orgo as a Second Language and I will try to take a look i've just been balancing it all out. I've done the Destroyer 1.5X times, i'm getting better as my percentages per 40 questions are getting closer to the 60 to 70% mark.

What time would you be up to chat? i'm still up studying, hit me up if you want to do it tonight and we can put it up here to get others to join.

Awesome. Let me know how group studying goes! Manhattan library is a great place. I've actually never been there myself to actually study. After you fully studied the material, do topscore! Don't waste the exams.

Yeah! Perfect! You're on the right track! I also think that after you complete orgo 2, you'll get a better understanding of DAT destroyer and hence you will score higher when you do the DAT destroyer

That chatroom is nice. I met some people there before but it's been empty these days. We should all choose a time (when people respond to this thread) to talk in that chatroom and we can discuss some things. Also, in regards to orgo, hm, I can help you with those reactions--they're more or less the same concept.

I'll be up until 2 AM or so. I'm actually in the chatroom right now.

Just to keep all of you posted, wired and I spoke on tinychat and we had a productive conversation! I talked about how I studied and what I did on the exam and the level of difficulty in comparison to other prep sources.

We can all hold a session like this in the near future

@ wired and invictus- I missed the chat 🙁
I first started Otho in mid march too from my college text book. It took complete 1 month to finish with all the chps 🙁 including one time revision. Then I starte with gen chem from princeton review, Kaplan blue book and currently doing chads videos. I started with destroyer for gchem yest. I think I am running too slow 😕 can u please guide me if I m on the rite tract?? I havnt touched bio and math yet. I am very weak in math. I really need some tips or assistance for math 🙁 what should i do?

Paras, I am running slow on both chem and Ochem, you are not alone. 🙂
I am trying my best to do 40/30/30 (Bio/chem/ochem), but somehow I end up not doing Ochem section... because it's too difficult, and I am only getting like 40% correct😡😡😡

I should be okay to meet with you guys tomorrow~

Hahaha, it's okay! Wired and I were geek chatting it up on a Friday night.... Don't read your college textbooks--they're too dense. I didn't touch a single college textbook. I think KBB does a sufficient job at explaining concepts--however, it's up to you to fully understand the concepts. The material is there to pave the road for you to walk on. I would do 60 questions of GC and OC a day, sometimes 90. I did DAT destroyer every other day. Then... after fully completing the destroyer, I did it hm... three more times? You said you're taking it beginning of June? Should be plenty of time! Definitely start studying for biology because that's the section that requires the MOST time. I spent endless hours trying to study for biology. The math requires a bit more algebra than the typical SAT. I heard Math Destroyer does wonders so maybe you should invest in that. I didn't study for QR but definitely know some basic knowledge of statistics.
