Need help with important issue...

So while I imagine most of us are excused from our rotations on Thursday, how are the rest of you guys talking your way into getting Friday off too? I was hoping my fellow would would pick up on my subtle hints as to how match day should be a 4 day weekend, but today he said something about how noon conference on Friday is going to be interesting. Any advice as to how to finagle this out, rather than me just dropping the old "see you Monday" tomorrow evening?

I was lucky enough that my attending I'm directly working with isn't going to be there, so she said I didn't have to come....

However, the doc actually in charge of my rotation (and, um, grade) wanted to meet in the afternoon for the regular lecture. I was planning on just skipping out and saying "I forgot" come Monday, but the other 4th year threw out "I'm not sure I'm going to be able to come in on Friday, it may be a late night on Thursday...." before we left today, so I was very happy!! Took some back-up on my part, "We have school-sponsored events scheduled until about 2am...." but the attending seemed defeated. Probably just chalked it up to being 4th years. 😱

Which is OK with me!!!! Either way, I'm NOT going in. I'd just have to be "sick" if all else fails!! 😀

You aren't going to fail for missing one day of a rotation. Just tell them you have plans and can't make it. Who cares? You've got what you came to med school to get, a residency!

This is the stupidest thread. You're a fourth year and you've matched! Just don't go. Call in sick. Whatever. They probably don't really care if you're there or not. You may not Honor this rotation, but guess what... nobody will ever see or care about this grade on your transcript unless it's a fail.

At least be professional and just tell them that you won't be in. I think telling them in advance goes a long way then just not showing up.

I'm not. I'm going to have to check my Blackberry in between surgeries.

Luckily enough our block leader for my rotation is ending the block tomorrow. Of course it doesn't matter to him as he knows we are not going into radiology so the only grade we can get is Satisfactory or Fail. Plus he also said "you guy's don't care what I put for your grade"...sadly true😳 I think if the attending seems OK you should just ditch, if he seems like a pedaqntic guy who could screw with you as you didn't listen to him then go.

that sucks. we get the eastern-equivalent hours of 11:30 AM - 3 PM off, then back to the grindstone! (no friday off, of course.)
