Hi everybody! I am a long-time lurker, first time poster. I need advice and help with choosing which schools to apply for. I know my stats are a low, but any help would be much appreciated.

Ethnicity: Asian
Major: Neuroscience
BCP: 3.08
sGPA: 3.2
oGPA: 3.25

DAT: Taking in early August. Have been studying non-stop. Hoping for a high score to balance out low GPA.

Economic Status: I qualify for the Pell Grant, work study + was on the free/reduced lunches as a HS/MS student. My father is on disability and received monthly financial assistance. (Not sure if this info is important). Just received FAP and will be submitting my application by this weekend.

Shadowing: 100 hours with an oral surgeon

Volunteer: 100+ hours at a local health clinic for a year and a half. We aim to serve those in the community that can't afford insurance. 50+ at a hospital

Research: I have been a lab manager of a cognitive science lab at my university for 3 years studying language development. I am also a research assistant in a Neuroscience lab where we study alcohol addiction in flies for a year.

Extracurriculars: Neuroscience Journal Club + Natural Science Student Government. Have an interest in engineer and completed and placed 4th /50 teams in a university BME design competition.

LoRs: Oral Surgeon, Two Bio professors I have taken classes with, Neuroscience professor in which I do research with.

Have a letter from the psych professor I work with as a non-science recommendor if needed.

Resident: Texas

If you could help me choose which schools I should apply to, it's be much appreciated. I know I will have to work super hard to round out my application to balance out my GPA.

Thanks!

when did you start studying for the dat?

when did you start studying for the dat?

End of May. I have finished the AP cliffs review and Chad's videos for Ochem and chem with extensive notes. Goal is to finish the Crack the PAT tutorials this week and then move on to review and practice.

You need to kick a** on that DAT. I would suggest working on non-clinical volunteering and raising your GPA (if you have classes left). Some schools highly recommend general dentistry shadowing.

Since you don't have a DAT score yet it would be really hard to know .....
What I mean is this ... your GPA is low but with a great DAT score you may land a few acceptances ...
Remember all you need is one acceptance!!
Rooting for ya
