Because we're talking about NADH produced during "glycolysis".
NADH produced from Krebs cycle would yield 3 ATP, but NADH produced from glycolysis yields 2 ATP.
NADH produced from glycolysis yields less ATP because they can't cross the inner mitochondrial membrane and have to donate their electrons to a different carrier molecule. I think that carrier molecule was called Q...

yeh the NADH produced during glycolysis does produce 3 ATPs however, 1 ATP is spent to get the pyruvate to the mitochondria....so 3 ATPs produced- 1 used = 2 net gained
