This weekend has been the worst of my and my wife's life. We had left a bottle of Isoniazid sitting on the coffee table with around 20 pills remaining and our young beagle who likes to chew things got it down while we were busy getting ready and ate some, as did our other beagle who probably only ate 1 or 2. We lost our youngest within the hour en route to the animal hospital, our older beagle started siezures an hour after (we mistakenly assumed she didn't eat any and was okay before this happened) approximate time of eating it. On the way there, she only had 1 more siezure.
The hospital gave her charcoal to absorb and valium to prevent siezures. Put her on an IV to clean her system. Added vitamin B complex. Monitored her for 24 hours and performed blood work 3 times. Her liver enzymes went 235 after 6 hours, 280 after 12, 180 after 24. Her blood acidity was higher than normal but not much and dropped to a little above normal after 24 hours. She ate well and drank well after 14 hours. Vomited a little at 20 hours, but think it was from eating too quickly.
My question starts here:
When we got her home, she paced around the house the entire time, not paying much attention to us other than a glance and an occasional stop before proceeding on (She's usually very attentive to us) We thought this was due to the other dog not being around (they've been together, f-f (sp), for only 4 months) and being depressed trying to find her. She seemed very out of it and stumbled time to time like she were drunk. Her side would go in the direction she was moving and she'd lose balance and slowly tip. She'd walk and go toward a wall and lightly head into a wall. She went into the laundry closet and turned to the wall and looked at it and whimpered as if she were trapped. She seems very weak. She recalls tricks fine, she sees fine. I can call her over and put my hand out as if I had a treat and she would stand on her hind legs and balance to sniff my hand.
What is wrong? Is this a response to coming off the IV? Is this permanent? Brain damage?
Please help
